I did a quick recap of what I've got so far and I've noticed that:

1. I didn't reg as many .coms as I use to (or as I will like).
2. I picked up some names in other languages (de, fr, es, nl).
3. My second tld by no. of domains was .info
4. My second tld by money spent was .group

For me reg domains has become very risky, I'm not able to find good ones since english dot com space is crowded and competition is fierce and so I have to reg names in tlds that I didn't have any notable sales (nor did I break-even) or in languages I don't speak (is hard to contact people).

What do you register these days?

brexituncovered.com
bitcoinuncovered.com and a few other bitcoin related names
adaptcars.com
englishlens.com

and a few others. I'm just starting to put some sites on to them, and experimenting with CMS as I do it.

I reg'd a few xyz names as well as a bit of fun.

Same here :)
2. I picked up some names in other languages (de, fr, es, nl).
Same here :)

I hardly handreg anymore. If I do it's usually because I like the domain for a possible future project. But I might end up selling the domain anyway, chances are an offer will be made :)

From the top of my head: maybe I handregged 10 .com this year, twice as many in ccTLDs including dropcatching, the rest were acquired on various auction sites (expired names or sold by owner).

"hand register"? How else do you register a name? You register a name or you buy a name.

comati means freely available domains (instead of drop catching, negotiated secondary market deals or auctions).

Not too much on my side: got a few recently dropped .ORGs when they were on sale for $0.99, such as concert-tickets.org, daydrinking.org and weisswurst.org. No idea what to do with them though. ;)

I feel like it is very difficult to find good domains to hand-reg these days. There are just so many people who have already tried to find good domains to reg.

You can use a bot (automated software) to register or backorder a domain.

I hope you have a good year but are you prepared for 500 renewals of .xyz and 100 renewals of .us next year ?

The extensions/TLDs offered at 1-10c are almost impossible to profit from quickly !

I'm too good at hand reg'n to give it up, so I hand reg away to beat the band but I'm sticking to .com's as I only get moderate success from new gTLDs

I follow Tech trends and the domains I reg are usually brand new, as new as these technologies !

Also, dropcatch and expiring auctions are just getting too much competition these days.

Yep, a point missed by most. News stories, latest craze, fashion etc, always something new with a .com to match!

Yes i am ..

Let us say i bought 100 .us domains for 10 cents each and that's just 10 $

I believe i can sell at least ten domains for at least 10 each and that's 100$ ..Ten times the profit and i still have 90 domains in hand ..

if no offers for those ..i may drop some ..i may keep the good ones ..

The same applies on xyz names

Most of the way it works when the tlds are on sale :)

Easier said than done, but I looked at some of your stock and I think you can profit this way, for me this business model is too time consuming.

This is not the way i regularly sell ... But why not . Have enough time after office ..

What if i get a 1000 $ offer for one of the domains ???

Its all about luck

I don't work this way all time .. But when the sale is on - i am no less than a bot :)

I buy at auctions, expired auctions, domainer to domainer, backorders, pre-registers and hand reg but I think the best domain I acquired this year is a hand reg for $1.49 :

Deviceless .com

at 10c a piece is worth playing the lottery if you have time on your hands, glimmer.us sold for $1100 last month so ... miracles can happen.

This is really motivating :)

Yup, hand regging mainly good for projects.
