Hello all,

For several months, I have been recording 6N sales from Asian auctions. I now have enough data (thousands of sales) to offer some perspective on the 6N market and general trends. Because the market is so liquid (and large), I have segmented the data into specific "pattern" types which have a large enough sample size to be meaningful.

Please note that there are other threads for showcasing your domains and discussing 6N in general terms. In this thread, I will highlight and discuss only 6N.coms sold at auction (live bids and confirmed buyers) on Asian platforms. I will use this thread to focus on specific pattern sales with short commentary. Hopefully, this will help buyers and sellers in pricing and bidding.

Please note:

1. I have not captured every sale, but am confident I have recorded "most".

2. I make no warranty as to the accuracy of the final sales price as I am relying on the auction sites and the sales reporting site Chaomi.

3. There is a lot of data and almost impossible to capture all. For perspective, the pattern I will analyze today has almost 80 recorded sales in the last 7 days. How many of this pattern were published on Namebio in the last 7 days? The answer is 0. Feel free to add sales that I may have missed or from lesser known auction sites.

4. Sales are in Chinese yuan (CNY)- Conversion guide (changes daily, so not precise):

Comment: 13 sales, average: 2631 CNY ($400) Low 2400 High 3300 (8 end). The number 9 is always strong and this data confirms.

Summary: Remember, this is one week. There are hundreds of data points for each triple over the last few months. This pattern bottomed in early-mid December at 1400-1600 CNY on low end. The last two weeks show increasing price.

I will analyze the next pattern in a day or two.

Another strong rise today! Chips are upto 640 floor on Chaomi with a strong volume of 600 names followed by a couple of rises that led to this surge. We are now around a $100 floor which is absolutely a good milestone!

non-chips did have a very strong sales volume recently topped by today's 1700 names in total and still not ended!

We have had around 25000 chips sold in Chaomi in the last 2 monthes which is around 10% of the whole available ones! for non-chips around 75000 which is also 10% of the total available. Seen a lot of absolute non-patterns sold for non chips and are expiring within a month, which means basically that NOTHING is going to be left for expiry and available freely for hand registration.

The above are relatively good news for chips holders(especially patterns) as well as pattern holders for non-chips.

Holders of non- patterns, non chips, nothing will change, sell at any price or let expire, Chinese are paying 50 cents per name and they renew upon acquisition. Unless, you really wanna bet that high and retain for a couople of years (given this thing is not going to sink to zero).

Next milestone? $150 floor for chips. I think thats going to happen and get steady. Patterns will continue to rise, especially when its investors that hold the majority of chips, this will leave room for investors to spend more on patterns rather than saving the non-patterns like they're doing at the moment.

Today alone $600K waas spent on chips in China, thats a lot of money for one day! investors dont pay $1M+ every month on something thats going to die!

I'm selling all my last 6n.coms in the coming week to 10 days so it's nice to be benefitting from selling into an upswing as opposed to selling well into a crash which i've had a few times.

Prices are indeed moving up for now. What happens when renewals come due is another question but time will tell.

The changes we see on chaomi are around 15% increase effective today only, the volume's increase is what is really outstanding! To see 1.5K chips changing hands and around $140K sales/investment in 6Ns in one day, is a definite indicator this thing is destined for a rise and not decaying as a lot of people have speculated!

I've been expecting things to pick up around now so no massive surprises to me.

However, I tend to feel things will be short lived with renewals due soon. You have to realise that 6n's have next to no serious end user potential unlike 5n's so it's 99% speculation and trading from domainer to domainer which as we know from 5l.coms only ends one way - in disaster (i'm expecting a $10k loss on 5l's).

Just my opinion.

6Ns are 900K total numbers, 5L Chips are 3.2 Million!
a patternt to exist in 5L is not as nice as it could be in numbers, I can easily remember 711171.com but very hard to remember rfrrf.com maybe its just me, but I do think because we are all used to remembering numbers, names but never acronyms! If there are end users for 5Ns, then there are end users at least for pattern 6Ns! The onles that will definitely die are non chips non patterns, these are around 500K of the total 900K names.

I'm not even referring to the rubbish pattern 5l's, but decent/good pattern 5l's which I do think is a perfect analogy to average chip 6n's. Unfortunately I think there are very little end user demand for 6n.coms and I read somewhere the Chinese authorities only recently approved/recommended businesses using 5n's, 6n's aren't even in the picture thus as I said complete domainer speculation at this point.

I do think this wave up will be short lived but everyone is entitled to their opinion.
I'm not sure there will be a dump of chip 6n's but I expect to demand to tank again in the not too distant future.

I hope for holders it doesn't.

Strong activity the last few weeks. Much higher and more consistent volume (not just a few buyers), 100% gain for average 6n without 0,4 to $105. Multiple diverse pattern sales of over $300 in the last two weeks. For example, xx888x pattern has not seen an auction sale of less than $300 in weeks, two pairs are averaging over $200.

I sold a 6n domain to a Chinese company a few weeks ago for $400 (more than I paid). They had a website up in two days.

Few months back, I didnt know what is the Chinese spam. Now I get bombarded almost every night CET with emails offering for 6N without 0,4 200 RMB.

Dont fall for the hype..The Chinese ( I love the Chinese as I do business with them all the time but) are known to devaluate commodities and currency so hold onto your valuables as they will come knocking if you dont budge. Just like the old song keep on knocking but you cant come in.

Well the news are :

Chips : Floor has been steady above 650 for the past few days with volumes of 300+ each day. Today they are at 699, which is a decent thing. It means we are clear above the $100 as a floor!

Non chips : Volumes are high with at least 500 names a day for around 10 days now. In the past 2 weeks at least 15K names were sold which is 2% of the entire population! Thats whats known publicly! which means a $120K in renewals alone for these names! Most of them are non-patterns and will expire in less than a month, which means that names that will drop, will get hand regged immediately. Thats a great sign for pattern holders, but non-patterns, I still do believe they will barely be sold for a buck if they are to expire soon!

Im glad my non-chips are all patterns, maybe mediocre patterns, but at least patterns, so there is hope to breakeven for these in a couple of months. On the other hand, chips that I paid $200 for, I must live with the fact that I can barely sell them for $150 in a few months and swallow some losses, or bet on a longer term wait and see.

Something strange is happening in the 6n.com market. Last night a chinese buyer bought 45, 6n.com with "0 and 4" around $18 each, not much but still something, considering I could not even get $9 each for them 1 week ago. Then I noticed at the biggest seller of 6n.com both with "0 and "4" ename.com which was selling hundreds of names a day many for under $10, all of a sudden has not sold any for over 1 week.. From hundred a day to ZERO a day since Sept 12th something seems strange. Maybe another pump coming??? I get my info on this here: http://shortnames.com/6n/sales#4ye

Anyways, something is happening, will keep an eye out on it.
