discuss Calls from India

It's only Noon and I have already had 4 different website design firms from India call my cell phone! I keep telling all of them never to call me again but it does no good. One such Indian firm called me every single day for 3 months!!! I know it was them because the caller id always just showed a W instead of a phone number.

Any business person in the US can be fined big bucks for harassing people by phone who have asked to be removed from calling lists. But these Indian firms seem to be getting away with mass harassment of US citizens without any recourse.

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
And UK citizens!

I've tried reasoning with them, shouting at them and played all the games (how long can we keep them on the phone by just answering 'yes' etc) which was fun for a while.

I've recently bought a very loud whistle... it doesn't stop them calling but the screech at the other end of the phone when I blow it IS very satisfying haha. I'm encouraging everyone to do the same :)

GoWebby is the worst.

I've had six Indian website/SEO marketers call me so far today, including the dreaded GoWebby. I think it's time for me to join JimJammy and get a whistle.;)

Sometimes I am playing my guitar and I put the phone next to the amp, sometimes I answer and just put the phone down and walk away. Sometimes I do not give them a chance to talk and tell them I do not want web design, it's about that point they hang up on me. Blanket statement ......... "I will never deal with any of these wankers" As for emails, I now add them to my block list ..... it's growing every day lately

lol.... I actually had 2 calls, about a week ago from Gowebby......I responded to both calls the same way :)

Step 1: - Put the call on Speaker so u can carry on working or doing whatever it was you were doing.

Step 2: - Doesn't matter if the caller is male or female (your objective is to freak them out so they don't call you again)

Step3: When they starting give you the pitch, cut them off and ask them "What are you wearing?"
- This is generally followed by silence, then they might carry on with the pitch or they ask you "Sir, what do you mean?" - Then you respond, "I want to know what you are wearing because I'm naked and you sound very sexy and I am very turned on right now and am touching myself"

Step 4: They put the phone down and never call back :)

Got continuous emails, as many as 20 a day.
I have marked them as spam, but each time they
change the address and try to reach my inbox.

When you tell them for the 15th time you are only buying and selling domains and are not interested in developing your domains they argue with you and make you feel as though you are doing something illegal.

Collectively this Indian spam approach will destroy the entire Indian service industry reputation online, which is a pity as I'm sure some them are very professional and deserving of a better reputation.

There is a deep routed culture in India of spamming/haggling for trade from overcompetive or poorer regions.

I think it will take much time for Indian business to adjust or standardize its practices to an acceptable global standard.

Just as a deterrent, I have a policy of marking all unsolicited emails I receive from Indian sources looking for development business as spam.

If only I was this popular with women when I was younger and single. Now I know what it feels like being a celebrity.

thinking of changing my whois phone number to a web developer's number in India - so they can ring and harass each other all day long.

4 - 5 calls from India...

Every day...

For the past 4 years.

From supplements to SEO.

"HI SERRRRRR"

the thing that annoys me so much apart from their broken english is all the pausing they do between sentences.

I am from India. They Stopped calling me when I threaten with reporting to police and the calling stopped.
I still get Emails and Text messages every time from different address or numbers. Hell they are unbreakable

Hmmm I think we should all get "premium" rate phone numbers ....like paytel sort off...where we get paid a commission per minute for all incoming calls. :)

Then sit there and listen to their entire pitch and ask them questions and keep them on the phone as long as possible... :)
