Thank you VERY MUCH for starting this thread!! I invested in arabic IDN domains. Was this a MISTAKE? as far as I can tell Arabic IDN is not very desirable.

I find it SAD that a proud culture would rather use a "foreign" language's western characters in their domains. It's strange to me. yea sure souq.com will take you to a marketplace. Souq.com uses western latin characters from the Romans and Celtics and Saxons etc etc yet if you enter Souq.com it is also the same characters. not arabic.

where is the Pride? especially in a culture where religion is strictly followed and that religion is written and spoken mostly in Arabic.

Does anyone here believe that "eventually" the UAE and the Middle East will create a decree stating that all Arabic websites should have arabic character domains?

This would be so great if it ever happened.

I'm Arab and I think selling to endusers is rather tricky. Most would like to use western influenced branding or names which you wouldn't regularly find in the arabic dictionary. In my country we use a lot of slang, and this applies to most Arabian Gulf countries. It's a market which I would rather want to leave untouched.

I agree with you on the trickiness of selling to end users, but I do have some hope for the future and when purchasing arabic DN I mainly target young arabs and muslims.

I'm going to sell my Arabic Character domains unless someone here tells me otherwise. Really sucks because I have some great keywords in this language. It's the same with the Chinese. Arabic and Chinese character idn domains just are not getting adopted quick enough for my taste. I'm sure they will eventually. And whoever is sitting on good keywords will retire nicely. But right now?I have other priorities.

So can anyone comment? Are Arabic idn domains no good right now or what?

As I was told by an Arabic friend. That there are just too many variations of one word. One word said a certain way in Egypt won't be the understood in Saudi Arabia. This is the main problem.

I mean for example. I figured that Saudi Arabia is that biggest importer of chicken in the world. So many chicken restaurants cooking halal chicken. So I registered chicken in Arabic idn .com. So is this garbage? I was thinking of selling this to an Arabic chicken restaurant. Also own caviar.com in Arabic idn after finding out caviar is halal. As I assume a caviar company might be interested in marketing to Arabic market for their caviar products.

I haven't marketed but will soon. Will these be bought at auction. Will anyone even make an offer so that these domains will go to auction on sedo!?

from what I was told on NP. Potential Arabic domain buyers are very shrewd business men. they figure why pay US for our cool and nice and good domain names when they can just take it and add a word here or there and avoid having to pay us for exact keyword domains.

I still think the Arab world is still a bit behind with understanding the need for exact keyword domains. but with it's vast wealth (Saudi Arabia and Dubai and qatar) they will catch up eventually. but not fast enough for me so I will sell my domains to someone who will profit later. can't wait for Arabs to get with the program on this. I mean they do like to copycat the West why can't they copycat what the west or even the east is investing in domains?

Someone I know owns DXB.com for example. had it for a while. it is the exact match for Dubai's abbreviations. it's been for sale for a while now. not sold. why not? like I said it's an EXACT MATCH. and still as rich as Dubai is. NO ONE wants to shell out the money to own it?

Mind you there's a huge market for single and two number license plate numbers. yet no one has bought DXB.com for however many millions it might cost?

Aragoz (Pupeteer) probably has little commercial value since this is a dying art in the Arab World, but it's a word I like and I just want to have it.

Zahry (Pink), is accepted for publishing on BB for a suggested price of $2,295 but I'm still very much undecided whether to publish or not.

Hello Faisal,

Nice thread. Too bad the arabic domain market has always been modest when compared to other markers. We don't really understand the value of online marketing & how useful it might be to our business (Most of us & not all). Few Arabs only keen to invest big amounts in domains.
I have watched the market for the last 7-8 years and it was not encouraging at all. I have some names like arabkey.com , arabmedia.net, xKUW.com & zKSA.com.
I prefer solo names, I have Saif.org. The word Saif is well known and used in the arabian gulf.
At the end, arabic domains can be sold for a price much higher than expected, but it always takes time.
