As the headline said, lets say you have 1000$ for spending, and you want to stay out of chinese madness what kind of domains will you buy and for which price? Old domains on closeout, 2 word brandables hand registration, 2 word brandables on marketplace, 2 or 3 word keywords etc.?

Not sure what exactly I'd buy, but I'd spend the full amount on the best single domain I could find rather than spread it out over multiple names.

In my experience it is far easier and way less time consuming to sell a $1,000 domain for $2,000 than 100 $10 domains for $20 each.

That's a popular stance and strategy! I lean towards the opposite but thats what makes this industry fun!

Till now, I was more into buying 100 for 10$ and trying sell for 20$ then buying 1 for 1000$ because in the market there are a lot of overpriced domains and almost all set prices for end users so you need to have very good knowledge to recognize the right one but know after investing some money in chips and numerics Im little bit lost so Im collecting people opinions :)

Based on a $1000 budget, you won't have an easy time buying high end domains. $1000 is a relatively small budget for domains. I would use the same discipline whether 1000 or 100,000. Avoid impulse buys, thoroughly evaluate the domains before investing.

I would spend $100 buying bargains for immediate flipping, a couple of nice $100 domains for short term hold, and maybe a couple of 350 range domains. 100/200/700. Even a 50% profit on your flips would grow your $100 to $1140 in six months. Flip your short holds(90 days) twice and now you've got $450 on those. Double your money once on your two 350's and now you've got 1400+450+1140 in just six months. From 1000 to 2990 in six months. That's the safe way to go but quite a bit of work.

You might get lucky and buy one name for $1000, but not many people leave alot of money on the table and all your money would be tied up in one domain.

Of course, if you only have $1000 and have to ask what to do, you might want to invest 100-200 and save the rest. :)

I have been hand-regging domains and buying cheap but average domains from others and trying to flip them for small profit, but even for that small profit I have to do a lot of hard work. I have to research each domain before buying and then put all the research together when selling and managing a huge portfolio is itself a lot time consuming. So what I am going to do now is buy $100 - $500 domains. The profit depends upon the type of the domain and the type of sale whether it's to an end-user or a reseller, but one thing is for sure that I will make at least the same amount of money I make currently but with a lot less hard work!

If I have only $1000, I'd buy brandables and meaningful kw+kw in com only for $20-100 range and sell them for $200-$5,000 range.
