New marketplace launched - Freemarket.com

The new owners of the Warrior Forum have launched a new website/ domain marketplace at Freemarket dot com. They claim that it was created as a solution to the problem of high fees and minimum commissions charged by Flippa. It is free to list and when you sell a website or domain they charge a 5% commission after sale.

I think it is a good thing since it creates more options for sellers and more exposure for domains/ websites but it will take some time for it to pick up, especially when there are established marketplaces for domains like the one right here on Namepros. When it comes to selling websites, Flippa has carved a niche for itself.

Seriously? That is BS! I know where I definitely won't be listing my domains...Hmmff..
Are any other marketplaces like that, that I should know about before listing on them?
Flippa charges too.

So If I were to put a bunch of my domains on auction marketplaces for "Make offer" then sell it, like on, let's say "Sedo" for example, then I will be charged to remove it on Flippa, AND Freemarket?
Then Godaddy tells me if I list it on their site for make offer, I have to go through them to accept offer...
Any other sites I should know about?
Also can you list on other sites such as Sedo, if your domains are still in a locked period on another registrar, or do I have to wait?

So confusing, but thank you for bringing this to my attention!

I think that freemarket.com will be seen as a welcome addition to the DN aftersales market, but frankly, any sales venue that takes business away from Sedo has my seal of approval... Good luck to them!

:)

Flippa and FreeMarket are independent companies so what you list on Sedo or any other marketplace will not be listed at Flippa or FreeMarket. The only way your domain listing gets shown on Flippa or FreeMarket is if you actual list with them directly.

Most registrars do not allow you to transfer your domain to another registrar for a period of 60 days. But, you can always push the domain to another user within the same registrar.

Yes, I do understand that, but my question is,If I have my domains at Godaddy, and they are still in the 60 day lock period", can I still put up for sale on places such as Sedo? Or do I have to wait until the 60 day lock is over and done with to list someplace else besides Godaddy, or a parked page?
What are my options if they are still in the 60 day locked period besides the obvious of having someone open a Godaddy account for a push?

You can list the domain for sale anywhere, but you won't be able to transfer the domain to another registrar during that 60 day period. If you can work something out with the buyer, then I guess it can work. You can tell them the domain isn't available for transfer until a specific date.

Yes, I know and understand that. But I was checking out Sedo's market place, and was going to list some there, and it said I had to add the domain. But not sure if that meant I had to transfer it to them or? That's one area I'm stuck in. I just want to start putting them out there, and start generating some offers...But also without having to be charged for taking the domain out a certain marketplace once I reach an agreement. I understand after 60 days I can do a transfer, and I can push for free in Godaddy...That's not the issue...

No, it's just adding it to the Sedo marketplace.

Most of my domains are at GoDaddy, except the ones won at auction.

I list at GoDaddy, Sedo, Afternic, usually at Make Offer. Park them at Voodoo usually. Then you can always put them up at places like this (I wouldn't, seems like too many problems) Flippa, Bido, Ebay etc.

Gotcha...Thanks! I plan to mostly put make offer on all so I wouldn't list on places like eBay anyhow...
Although still a bit confused on the Godaddy thing, as they told me if I put for up for offer on their marketplace, and another, and I accept the offer from a different place, then I have to go through them in order to do the transaction so they can get the commission... Not liking that!..As I don't want to have to pay commission for 2 different marketplaces once it's sold..Know what I mean?

Not sure who told you that, but that's not true.

Example. I have a domain (regged at GD) up for Make Offer at GoDaddy and Sedo. Let's say I get an offer for the domain thru Sedo, we go back and forth, come to a price and I sell it to them thru Sedo. Sedo gets a cut, that's it. The marketplace where it's sold get's the commission and you can have that name listed in various marketplaces.

You only have to pay commission at the marketplace where your domain is actually sold. Once it's sold, just cancel the other auction.

That's where I get confused...Godaddy told me I can't do that. And if it sells somewhere else on make offer, then I have to go through them to do the transaction, and can't cancel...:-/

Doesn't sound right to me. It's your domain - your prerogative to sell where you want. All they are is your registrar. Why would they be involved in a sale on a different marketplace?

I agree..And I don't know, but that's what they told me.

When you sign up for a domain selling service, especially an auction, you are expected to complete a transaction once it begins, the same as buyers who make an offer that you accept. That's why some companies insist on exclusivity listings. If you have a hot name, say for example, cars.com, it wouldn't be fair to run two or more simultaneous auctions, would it?

2 auctions at the same time, yes. But with GoDaddy Auctions, even tho it's called auctions, when you set it to Make Offer, it's not an auction.

I think she got some newbie GD employee that didn't know what they were talking about. I only deal with my rep, and they're usually very knowledgeable. I did catch somebody new late one night and they really had no idea of how things went. She looked at my domains and said she never dealt with somebody who had as many as I do, and I only have around 500.

Any simultaneous transactions can be a nightmare. If the make offer amount meets the reserve or if the domain is then sent to auction, the obligation to sell is still there. And if the same thing happens at another selling service at the same time, it's an issue. Not sure how often this happens, though.

That's not how GoDaddy works. I have all mine set to Make Offer. Somebody can send me an offer. I can take it straight up. I can counter offer. I can push it to auction. I can do nothing at all. Goes back to the example I had above. If I have it set to Make Offer at GoDaddy and sell it at Sedo. Sedo gets a cut, GoDaddy has nothing to do with it. Same with Afternic, I have them all set to Offer. And I have it setup that way, so there are no conflicts like the one you mentioned. Some people have it set to Buy Now at different places. In the off chance somebody does Buy Now at separate places, then you're going to have problems.

The example gatekeeper72 gave, somebody told her wrong.

That's just false.

yes, it appears untrue.

From GD's terms of service .. . sort of at odds . . .

" Domain names listed may be withdrawn at any time by Seller or by Go Daddy."

"You agree not to sell any domain name to any Buyer found through the Services without using the Services to complete the transaction. Should Go Daddy find that you are circumventing the Services, Go Daddy reserves the right to terminate your account and cancel all of your listings."

This is good to know! I hope you all are right, and what they told me was false info...I even asked them "How would you know if I accepted an offer from somewhere else?" And they couldn't give me a straight enough answer, and told me they were sending me their tutorial on how their auctions, and make offer sales work, which had nothing in their about it.

yeah it seems good but There are not so many bids as compared to number of domains for sale.

That's exactly what I mean. If they did tell me false info, I can put on multiple places for offer, rather than being tied down to only 1, therefore getting more exposure for my domains.

These are the people behind freemarket.com. Have personal experience hiring freelancers via the website and its not a good one. Essentially every time you touched your mouse you were charged for something...both I and the freelancer had fees coming out of our you know what.
The only reason why we're even talking about them is because they've purchased every competitor in the freelance space. Definitely wont be using these guys ever again.
I wish i shorted these guys when the listed on the ASX. Price action well deserved given their rep and how they treat freelancers and customers.

Is there a way to cancel listings once posted (with no bids)?

As long as there are no bids, you should be able to cancel your listing at any marketplace.
