is there anyone who could suggest me the best green/eco friendly hosting providers for WP?

For the purpouse of the website ( and because I am very aware of carbon dioxide pollution & Co ) I want to find a zero emission/eco friedly hosting provider but I am a complete newbe in this area.
I want to avoid choosing a company that turns out being a crap resulting in a website transfer.

I think you may have a hard time finding a eco friendly web host. Maybe you need to start one.

I haven't used their services, so don't know.

Maybe it's a 3d-printed, hemp-eating, robotic cow that passes high velocity wind which powers their servers.

I'd say it's ok so far in terms of speed and control interface. I've only tried installing WordPress on about 15 domains; yet to try the other features. Customer support is fairly quick and good.

Haven't had any issues other than coming to know from support they don't support SOAP. I think it's required if you want to install any of those popuar Amazon affiliate plugins for WP. For a $20-something per year unlimited plan I think iPage is good.

You have been told absolutely correct, the quality of every host deteriorated once EIG got their hands on it and that includes iPage and FatCow imho. As for the others, I've heard about some support troubles with HostPapa in another forum, but that might be a one-time occurrence.

Another thing to watch out for is that many hosts use "green hosting" as a marketing gimmick and aren't really "green". Truth be told, its quite hard to achieve 100% Green Hosting to begin with, but that doesn't stop many from blatantly advertising it. If your future host can offer you some sort of proof and not just promises, this will be your best bet.

My advice would be to rank your priorities for your new host, as some are much more important than others. Even if you find a host that is "green" there is still the possibility of unreliable services, downtimes, bad and/or unreachable support, or an unreasonably high cost. So once you have a good idea about each factors' importance, you can go host-hunting prepared

Well..I would like all of the above + being green!
So if you have some advice I am all ears

Greenhosting seems to have good reviews as well as hostpapa and A2hosting but I would be happy to know from " real " people

I would really want to help, however best I can do is share information from other hosting related forums. As I mentioned, finding the real "green" host is tricky, as even being their customer, there isn't a sure way to know their advertisement was not a gimmick. If you weren't on a personal tour along their super-duper-24/7-wind-powered datacenter you are just relying on their word for it

GoDaddy I would certainly not recommend. GD is great for domain registration but that is as far as their superpowers go. Don't have any impressions from InMotion, although for GreenGeeks I have heard some good words around the forums. But then again it was about their services, not how "green" they are.

At the end, I'd still stick with my advice to shortlist your hosts not by what you read somewhere, but what you personally experienced when you tried their Live Chat with questions that concern your project. Once you list the hosts with knowledgeable and helpful responses (and, believe me, they wouldn't be so many) you can then base your final decision on who is the greenest of them all %%-

This really depends on what your plans are. If you would be developing a personal project, or a few websites for you and friends, a managed WP environment shall suffice. Now, if you want to do business and sell hosting to your clients (if you are a webmaster, designer or smth) then the Reseller Package will serve you better in terms of easy management of multiple accounts and freedom to provide custom packages. In any ways, if you are unsure on how it will work out, you can always start with a single account and once you get a hang of it, if you liked the service to this point, your host should have convenient upgrade options and convert you to a Reseller easily

I am not going to resell hosting butI think that having a reseller one for my own projects has its own advantages. It's cheap, the hosting space won't be oversold ( thing that often happens with the shared one ) and I don't have to worry about how many websites I develop...at least until the day they become massive!!!!

You got the right logic there, however your concerns can also be covered with a managed Shared Package if you don't fall into the trap of seeking Unlimited Space, Traffic etc. There are still many providers that offer a fixed amount of space and a package for multiple websites. So, within your fixed webspace, you can still create as many sites as you wish and you don't have to worry that the server is oversold simply because no one can interfere with your own fixed resources. And given that the space is enough you would have enough room to develop your projects, expand them and eventually upgrade should you need to get more

Anyways, just giving you both viewpoints of the matter. Regardless if you choose Shared or Reseller, as long as you are careful in your choice of host you will be just fine

HostPapa was the worst server experience I've ever had. Unexplained downtime, almost no support to customers.

They are really nice to the environment and their staff. Customers come in somewhere farther down that list.
