The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
The valuable keywords will be re-registered, only the worthless or low-value ones won't be (which I find very reasonable).

The problem with this logic is there are about 1.3M .CO registrations with hardly any development. That means the vast majority are for investment or defensive registrations.

And there are not that many investment quality keywords.

99% of the best all went long before open registration, or landrush, almost 40K of them. Those are the top quality terms - Loans, Fitness, Solar, etc. The vast majority of the 1.3M regs are closer to garbage than top keywords.

There are also a large amount of defensive registrations due to the closeness to .COM. Many of those are dropping as well because .CO provides virtually none of the typo traffic people had expected.

I've seen lots of LLL.co are dropping at Godaddy auction and many of them have a bid.

This is great for .co extension.

I'm lucky to registered breed.co and breeder.co to replace my online store wagzone.com. Yes, wagzone.com is now redirecting to breeder.co as main website.

Cheers.

I agree with you on the defensive registrations, but of people registered for hopes of typo traffic, they registered for the wrong reason, and don't get it. I realize everyone has a different strategy, but that seems pretty shortsighted.

Perhaps the best strategy with .co domains at the moment (apart from the obvious) is development. There's not going to be much competition from other .co domains and if the .com is parked, then it is an easy win.

I'm looking at a large (>170K) list of .co drops at the moment and it is like a flashback to 2002.

I agree with this. This is closer to my thinking. I've talked to a few old school domainers who bought a handful of .CO domains for typo traffic, and my first thought was, "nope..."

The only way the typo traffic model works is if its a high traffic .com doing 1million plus uniques a month, but those are all tm domains.

Deveoping a .co where you know who owns the parked .com is at least a way to get some return on investment. Seeing a name parked at Internet Traffic owned by a registrant that owns 10,000 domains with 0 developed is good.

I think the best strategy is wholesale avoidance. IMHO

I figured people could use a coupon code in case you have names to pay for at GoDaddy this week. This took 22% off my order of $44: gdx624k

Edit: Works on auctions, too. That's why I posted it here.

Anyone participating in the massive amounts of .co action at Godaddy?

Some decent names there.

One of the names I was watching just ended at over $1,600 with more than 85 bids.

A few others I spotted seemed to be hovering around $700-800. Lots of action on LLL and NNN, as well.

I was interested in one.

Out of my price range. Its strange how people flock to names - plenty of decent names with not much bidding but some being bid up like crazy.

Some seem to be end user pricing.

Probably been a lot of front running going on.

Im sure that a $1600+ domain is an end user purchase.

Really interesting time for picking up .co's (tons of duds, tons of them. but a few reg-worthy ones that simply dropped).

@ Paullymac

Please don't post newly.expired names from auctions - as far as I know, most of those names can still be renewed by the original registrant during the redemption period. The winner(s) aren't guaranteed to get names until they're in the new owner's account.

Got it, good point. ive edited the post to protect the buyer. i find it weird that they auction before the redemption period. Seems like a sure way to cause a lot of pain for auction buyers.

No problem, thanks for the edit.

Actually, I'm willing to bet it was an investor who bought it. And it wasn't me, although I was one of the bidders, and I own an alternate spelling of the name.

It could be an end user, but unless they saw it in the WhoIS or are tech-savvy enough to know that the major .CO drop period is happening right now, I don't think they'd be hip to the fact that GD auctions even exist.

Only time will tell. This is certainly fun to watch! :lala:

Interesting. at that price I think I'd be wary as an investor, although it does relate to alot of businesses. I havent picked up .co's this time around but have got my eye on a few coming up :>

If you want to read how Godaddy auction domains can still be renewed (and the time frame involved), read this NP thread (Starting on Page 16):

In summary, it's a good idea not to brag about an auction win until about 4 days AFTER the domain lands in your GD account.

Guys, can you post some of the prices that the expired names fetched at GD. It's not violating the rules here. I think it would provide a realistic view of the .co aftermarket.

If it were .com the prices would have been posted... and .co is less competitive, so I can't see the harm. If you are bidding on the name, maybe you should avoid posting it.

Look at the NFC thread, people post what's in auctions. I think it would be cool to have some action in this thread... it's seems to be dying. :imho:

Just to be clear: I am not interested in purchasing expiring .co.

I wouldn't waste money on NNN.CO like those.

Rick Schwartz dropped 90 + NNN.CO and he couldn't care less of even getting a dollar for either one of them.

I would say-focus on .COM. It's where the money is at.

Check http://www.namebio.com sort by .co, most are there, about 3 and a half pages of .co sales from GoDaddy for today alone.

Thanks. Seems like namebio is keeping up with recent sales. It was never this up-to-date for Godaddy auctions in the past.

Some of the prices do seem to be end-user prices. Pity one can't set the price range on namebio starting below $100. If it were possible, I think the list would run to quite a bit of pages than just the three and a half pages it is showing now.

Looks like there are more sub-$100 prices judging from the lists I have seen at GD.
