The LLL.com sales report & discussion thread

We need this one too guys :)

This guide will also help LLLL.com holders to understand more the value of their 4 letters .com based on how expensive the similar 3 letters .com are.

From:

http://3character.com/priceguide.html

Pricing Guide for 3-Letter (Composed Of Letters Only) Domains:

Current Observed Minimum Wholesale Price (regardless of letter combo) as of February 1, 2008:

3-Letter .com - $6700 (+ $300 since January 1, 2008 report)

But I consider their guide a bit old since they are not taking in consideration the emergenging countries that appreciate other letters and as we have run a poll here several times lately, the majority of people consider the letters U
and W to be Premium letters.

Let`s have a look at some recent LLL.com sales as reported from NameBio.com :

nak.com $27,135 2007-12-22 SEDO.com

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
I ran a nameserver scan over all 17576 LLL.coms
I found that 6566 of them were parked.

There are a lot of names that are actually not developed, but point to an empty server/construction page. I have no way to check this, exept for making an estimate based on avarage results.
Around 15% of the checked domains was under construction or parked by forwarding (apart from the 6566 known parked domains).

This would mean that a total of ±8218 LLL.coms are undeveloped.
That comes down to around 46.75%

This is just an estimate, but should come pretty close to the exact number.

Wow, thats a very informative scan you did there TM. I'm actually a little suprised at that, as I expected there to be fewer that were undeveloped. It's very interesting indeed!

Good work, Toilet Monster...Very interesting.

I think that 53% of all LLL.com's as developed sites is a pretty healthy %...Essentially, they are progressively disappearing from the market.

Well we only have one data point, so nothing can be said about an actual change based on the data. In reality the number in the reseller market is likely slowly falling (a guess), but that could be said of any category of name. I suspect though it is mainly the higher quality names finding an enduser home.

True, many lower quality names are parked or empty, while most of the high quality names are either developed or owned by companies like FMA who won't sell them to endusers.

I will do another scan in a couple months to see if the number of developed pages is actually increasing.

Breaking the scan down into "premium" and "non-premium" would yield a useful stat.

Then further stripping out the FMA type of owners would give a better idea of what percentage of premium and non-premium are potentially available for re-sale.

Is that C i F or C L F both I cant find on namejet
#edit: I remember now Namejet only lets those original bidders re enter the auction and that's why I can not see it - Surprised as it was a name heavily discussed on this thread and the buyer 'NOY' taking part in the discussion about TM issues

Are you saying the non-paying buyer for CIF.com was the same 'Noy' as NP member noy.com?

Can you clear this up for us, please, noy.com?

I got cif.com

Maybe not cheap, but CVC nice pronounceables are really rare.

It looks like a few pages back (On March 1st) he said he got it... Not sure what's going on here. I hope he didn't do what I think he did!

CIF.COM $17,000 on NameJet.

This time seems it's for real.

it seems also 5 bidders were removed from the auction. "only" 212 this time.

It has been owned by Richard Sorensen, who apparently stole a bunch of LLL.coms (most of which he has now let expire). I would be a bit hesitant to invest a large amount in it even though it is a great one.

Thanks

He and his company, Site Services International, have been mentioned before in this thread (and probably at the other forum). He has lost several LLL.com cases, e.g.:

Case Details for WIPO Case D2008-0386
Case Details for WIPO Case D2007-1685

In one of the cases, the panelist writes:

"This finding is supported by the fact that the Respondent has previously been found to have hijacked and thus registered and used in bad faith two other domain names by NAF panels (cf. Olympic Credit Fund, Inc. v. Site Services International c/o Richard Sorensen, NAF Case No. FA 910790; and Wall Street Webcasting and Douglas Estadt v. Site Services International c/o Richard Sorensen, NAF Case No. FA 955052)."

But surely he most have lost or let go of almost all his stolen names by now...

How likely the previous real owner trying to get the expired domains back?

none of the highest bidders seem to be the previous owner.

Can the previous real owner get the domains back from the highest auction bidder using legal means?

yes he can, if the domain was stolen.

in an expired domain auction (not delete acutions) the previous owner can also recover the domain if he has "leverage" with the registrar. one notable case was NFR.COM last year. CheckPoint Software after being alerted by prospective buyers, decided to recover the domain, even after it has been sold for $12,322 on NameJet.

I have even heard of cases in which the enduser (accidentally) drops a domain, or spots a dropping domain they hold a TM for, and wait until the auction ends to sue the new owner for cybersquatting and (re)claim the domain, instead of taking part in the auction..

Always be careful with expiring domains, the valuable ones like LLL.coms often don't drop without a reason!

yep. i know a domainer who happened precisely that (but not with an LLL). he got the domain and soon after he received an ultimatum from a probably winner party in case of a dispute. and the guy didn't have yet put anything on the site (no ads, no competitive content,...).
