Just thought I'd try this out and the result was very interesting.

I have a pre March 18th premium LLL.tv domain that currently has a low $50/yr renewal, when I check the domain for availability in the Name.com multiple domain checker it comes back as taken with a price of $232.

My point here is, if I were to let the domain drop could this possibly be the price that a new registrant would pay with the benefit of normal renewal fee's?

In this case, I can happily pay the renewal for at least 5 more years knowing that I would still be in the black, however, I know that this is one of those rare cases where the initial premium price was very low and not the norm.

Other premium holders should check this out.

Will be interesting to see the results of the repricing (if name.com has it right).

Yes, as usual, the premium .tv pricing is wack. Great disappointment from Verisign.. they had a chance to do away with the premium pricing altogether and let the extension flourish, but they just couldn't do it. :(

Great post Len.

I just put two in the only two premiums I own

Tea.tv would be $2784
Wet.tv would be $2784

I was never going to drop them anyway but I would not pay $2784 over the $250 per year.

Len,
Forgive me for my ignorance, but where are you seeing the price? I just see the domain name as taken.

Thanks for the feedback.

You have to click the multiple domain checker and check the domain there, it will then give you the price and availability.

Infact here is the link, hope it works..... https://www.name.com/names

P.S. type in the domain with the .tv ext and click search.

Len this is crazy take a name like Orlando.tv $4000 premium it says $580

Spain.tv $2900

If this is true, that its tied into the Verisign system this is totally crazy.

Of course there would be a lot of competition for Orlando at $580 but you are telling the current holder you have to pay $4000 but we will take $580 from the new registrant.

Eq,
I noticed the same thing. Doesn't make sense. The other question is would the name even be available at that price. I would imagine not, so in some cases the premium renewal kept a barrier out for folks on the fence. Just my two cents.

Ray, that is exactly my point........why have the current holder continue to pay $4000/yr knowing that if they dropped the domain someone else could pick it up for a one time fee of $580 and then normal reg fee after that.

Surely it would be in everyone's interest to give the current owner the opportunity to pay the $580 when renewal time comes around and then revert to normal reg fee. Otherwise something like this leaves a bad taste in the mouth and does nothing to enhance Verisign's credibility or ethics.
Again, assuming the prices given by name are correct.

That's the thing would it Ammudamus ? I mean it does show the price and I would imagine that they are tied into the premium system. I guess when a premium drops it can be registered anywhere so maybe that's the price. Its not impossible IMO to think Orlando would be $580. Countries were repriced to $630 to $680.

I dont think prices are correct, I expect at least one time premium renewal fee as register premium fee.

Why Makis they were not for any of the other names. Chile.tv went from $5000 to $630 one time. Why can't Orlando.

Len you are 100% correct this is the dumbest move. Hello Antonis thank you for supporting .tv in a big way. We will ask you for $4000 a year, but if you drop we will take $580. Sincerely Verisign.

I m not arguing about their nonsense policy, I m just syaing that checking renewal prices from name and dynadot for old premiums wont give you realistic results.

prices are accurate for goldrush and beyond... but beforehand it's not correct.

call Name.com - perhaps they'll explain to you what it means and give an official response.

but I wouldn't put much weight into it right now. I use the results as a guideline to see what names were gold/land rush priced. (what I missed out on :()

also, everyone's scrambling for an answer RIGHT NOW regarding Legacy premium fees. I'm going to sit back and wait till after the Sedo auctions to see if VRSN has any other announcements. Keep in mind, it's ONLY been a week. They aren't taking baby steps... they're taking giant leaps to evolve the TLD. Perhaps there's more good news around the bend. I'm sure they're aware of our concerns (painfully aware), but they've been completely consumed with all the pricing hiccups over the last week.

Plus, I'm sure we can approach them as one collective and peacefully workout a win/win situation.

good luck to everyone.

Thanks for the tip Len.
For one of my 2 premiums the purchase price is less than 1 month of the renewal (the other is equivalent to 10 years renewal) - so I'd be very interested in buying one of my domains from them !?
I've emailed name.com to see if there's a way to achieve this.

Hey everyone,

I hope I can offer a little clarity, at least on how our bulk tool is reporting pricing and what we know about legacy premium renewals.

When you use our bulk tool to search for legacy premium .TV domains we are showing you what the registration fee *would* be if that name was to be dropped today. However, legacy premium domains have higher annual renewal fees attached to them, unlike the domains released during the goldrush and landrush periods (at least at this time). We are not currently displaying those renewal fees through this interface.

Since these domains are not available for registration (unless of course someone drops them) our system is not currently showing what the renewal price for these domains would be (which appears to varying for each domain). We are working on a solution for how to present this information, but again, because these domains aren't being dropped in any volume we have a little time to get the change in.

The pricing for available domains is correct on our site, as well as what the registration fee would be for legacy premium .TV's, but please don't rely on those numbers for anything regarding renewal pricing for the legacy domains, at this time.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Thanks,

Paul

Thanks for clarifying Paul.

As suspected these are for sure the new prices of currently held "legacy premiums" if dropped and re-purchased.

Exactly Len, so Paul you gave us the info we wanted and Len was right.

Example Tea.tv is $250 premium If I dropped it so I could get non premium renewal, I would drop and try to get it when the domain was available to register again on the drop. Tea.tv would be $2784. So no way would this make sense.

Now Orlando.tv $4000 a year and $580 makes a lot of sense.

Paul we know the renewal we own the name. This lets people know if dropped what they would be priced at to register with a standard renewal.

Thank you for the info.

Equity, I believe you are mis-understanding. I am saying that if you dropped Tea.tv and re-registered it, that as of today, you would still pay a PREMIUM RENEWAL, not a standard renewal for legacy premium domains, no matter what the new registration price was. It appears that only domains dropped during the goldrush and landrush have non-premium renewals.

Ok so Paul you are saying that if a premium drops, it will be premium for the new registrant. Wow then Verisign has really lost their mind. That must be fun for you guys, "Name.com why does one premium have premium renewal and another non premium renewal ?"

Thanks for the info Paul.

Ray, this must be the most complicated cctld and tld EVER.

If the old premiums have premium renewal fees even if they're dropped, we're looking at a REALLY big mess. If not, according to name.com's pricing, if the current owner drops sex.tv or video.tv it's going to cost the new owner $217.50 or $43.50 respectively. Now, that's what I call a bargain :P
