Here's my question..what is the value of domain hack? I've seen some good domain hack and i was wondering about the value of it. I myself own one and i'm not sure whether or not i should get more. I haven't seen any sale of domain hack. Why do we register domain hack? Is it because the domain looks cool or because there's a potential end user who's willing to buy such domain?

The BaldOne I'm very impress with your domain hack analysis. I became a domain hack fan recently and I'm thinking about registering more that could be marketable. Let me know when you start your your sales/marketing/advertising for ccTLD. You can count me in.

Mine is not as pretty, but being in the US wireless industry, I like it. :xf.love:

Personally I love domain hacks, but think it's better to invest in a decent .com (or even a .tv). I have only two, but they are real hacks, dub.ai and jo.hn (my name and less expensive than john.com or john.tv :)

They're terrible for investment.

What is terrible for investment?

Did you invest in some good domain hacks previously and end up losing money?

Could you elaborate a little more with your statement?

Look at my sig. Considering other ccTLD's. Why? I like them. That is all that matters to me.

Investment potential? Huh?

In time, I will brand them as they are so easily brandable.

Look at whi.ms. Visit the site. Not exceptionally popular but being picked up on other sites as a link and being mentioned on blogs.

It is all in the branding and marketability. Delicious is an excellent example. A bunch of money went into branding and marketing that site. But it is successful.

I love hacks simply because of the play on or the true meaing of the word.

So stay tuned. I am sure I'll be adding to the sig with another extension.

I'm noticing that these are all domain hacks without using subdomains, like del.icio.us

Do you think hacks are better without the requirement for a sub domain?

I think so. But then again it depend how you market it.

I've read some articles about del.icio.us here and there and they said that they just don't know where to put the dot. In my case it is easy to remember ...just put the dot in the middle.

The advantage of these domains is that I can put many subdomain(s) in it.

For instance: GR.AM could have these subdomains;
ANA.GR.AM
CRYPTO.GR.AM
DIA.GR.AM
MONO.GR.AM
MAMMO.GR.AM
PRO.GR.AM
TELE.GR.AM
ETC.

Also I'm planning to develop EX.AM in some exam information and I could have subdomains such as;
BAR.EX.AM
MEDICAL.EX.AM
CPA.EX.AM
MCP.EX.AM
MCSE.EX.AM
ETC.EX.AM

How about my latest domain hacks :

ll.lc and ta.lc

The first one is supposed to be a takeoff on LLC and the second one a mispelling of "talk" or of course could use it for some talc related thing too.

Know I know why I was not able to reg those and where they are.

To me, it is not so much about a return on investment. It is just plain fun. And so easy to brand.

Guitar players...stru.ms Swimmers...swi.ms Healthy cooking alternative...stea.ms

Stea.ms
Sport.sTea.ms (little long)

Guitar playing tips, best beaches, etc.

Another I own, again on a whim, is hit.name. The only .name I own.

Good for domain reselling site or blog. Not sure where to take it.

hit.name
a.hit.name
ItsA.hit.name
s.hit.name

See, it can be fun. Its creative

I've got many others and other extensions but can't recall at the moment.

Just have fun with it. Domains are words.

These are some hacks I would like to have in my collections.
HARE.MS
FOA.MS
SWI.MS
WHA.MS
ISLA.MS
PRI.MS
TRI.MS
MAXI.MS
STEA.MS
STRU.MS
CRA.MS

circa1850 some collections you got there.

I look at these domains as collectors items. These type of domains are hard to appraise. Why? Because any collectors items are priceless but hey that's just my opinion.

The shorter the domain hack...the better. I guess that applies in any domains

great for dance or even woodworking.

In time (yeah, I seem to have SO much of that) I hope to develop them all into fun sites, like www.whi.ms. These are so easy to brand and end up being their own keywords.

One I inadvertently left off the list and just added is BRAH.MS, great for a classical music/opera site...both of which I enjoy from time to time.

www.whi.ms is a nice looking site. Here are other two developed sites fo.am and ro.ma they are quite nice too.

Whi.ms is a wiki site, very difficult to learn syntax. Still glad I learned it. Now doing Joomla. Hope to do Drupal and Wordpress, perhaps some others (eventually).

So, here I was looking at .ma just the other night and now what do I find? I find where my roma is. Love Italy, in Air Force there many many years ago. Rome? What can I say. Fell in love every time I turned my head, all over Italy...not talking just about architecture and history here.

Damn, here I am learning more about hacks. As if I didn't have enough domains and projects.

I kept getting error messages with the .ma registrar. Who did you use?

Okay, I picked one up just for fun:

niu.ms

mille.niu.ms
zirco.niu.ms
cra.niu.ms
gera.niu.ms

what's the deal with the .ms whois records?

who.is/whois-ms/ip-address/whi.ms/

who.is/whois-ms/ip-address/STRU.MS/

They all show the same registrant email, and the billing contact is a company in germany????

I am aware of that. I am not sure, but I think I have to have an "agent" for the ms registrant. All are registered through GoDaddy (wild west domains) so I am confident of the purchase and ownership. Plus, I recently went into my control panel and resubmitted all my info.

Nice pick up on the LLL.

And that's the spirit behind hacks like this...just for the fun of it.

If it makes a buck...

I don't think you can call those domain hacks as they are not actual words
