The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
What?! How did that happen? How did they steal your domain from Godaddy to their account?

Do you have email confirmation from Godaddy saying your transaction was completed and you own the domain? I mean did you see the domain physically in your GD account? I've had something similar with Moniker - but the case was - despite the site saying domain registered, I later got an email (hours later) saying it was unsuccessful. Are you sure this didn't happen with you & GD?

:?

How did that happen?
Affilias registry decided delete many new domains, which registered on 29th september. Godaddy.com now can't control this domains. They were stolen in the registry, not in my account.

yes, Whois-data says, that I'm owner, but Affilias deleted this domain. I saw domain in my godaddy control panel and I changed nameservers for him.

The users of different registrars suffered. Registrars are not guilty.

Wow that is very worrying. Sorry to hear about this Alex. There must be something that can be done? I'm sure there are people here who have experience in this kinda thing who could give you some advice.

The codes on names that were not renewed were marked as "available". Afilias had no option but to lock/block all new registrations of these names. The previous owners have the right to request their names back for 30 days under ICANN agreements.

I would guess any names not claimed by their previous owners will be re-released to the drop cycle after the correct periods have elapsed.

So you mean what Alex registered wasn't actually meant to be available - and was given back to the rightful owner? Or what? ... Sorry, I'm a bit lost, trying understand what exactly happened here, sounds really strange.

If you forget to renew a name you have 30 days before it gets deleted when you can get it restored. (Some registrars will do it for free but some charge a lot of money to do a restore). - Some of those unpaid for names were marked as available when they shouldn't have been as the 30 days wasn't up.

Have you tried to contact your registrar about this? Any response.

Seems rather hasty labeling them scammers without fully knowing what might
have happened, given they did erroneously "release" certain domain names for
availability.

Yeah this makes a lot more sense now. I think the term scammers is going a bit too far - as Dave stated, after reading about what actually happened it makes perfect sense. Unfortunate as that maybe (for you) to think you had a name which wasn't actually meant to be released in the first place.

Quite a big c*ckup on Affilias' part to do that in my first place though. I'm sure its turning out to be a pain in their back-sides to sort out too.

Doma1n... hopefully you got your refund from GD, if not.. make sure you contact them because they don't usually give out refunds unless you ask (which I think is silly practice).

:)

Seems like the right move to me. Too bad Godaddy wasnt able to give you a reason as to why.

I asked godaddy support for refund 3 days ago. Now waiting.

If this domains deleted for mistake,
If domains were deleted by mistake before a term of real deletion, it means about incompetence of registry. Now I see, that every domain can be deleted because registry decided, that previous deletion was mistake. I see in fact, that domain which must was be deleted later, now restored and available for sale.
