I myself am mystified why none of the Go Daddy renewal codes are working. For years there were wonderful Go Daddy renewal codes. It appears that lately Go Daddy is trying to coerce people to signup for Brand New Domain Names with $2 Go Daddy codes so in a year from now Go Daddy will make back their money along with a nice profit once you renew your domain names at higher renewal fees. Currently, the only Go Daddy renewal code that appears to be working is the code "Downforce" which saved me 4+ dollars off $30 that I spent on renewing 2 domain names.

I am unsure where the cheapest registry currently is for renewing domain names and I myself am interested to know where to renew domain names at a reasonable price. I currently own over a hundred domain names.

I also believe Go Daddy is trying to convince people to signup and fork over some hard-earned cash for their Domain Club membership (or whatever they call it) which gives you a discount for renewal fees. I'm sure it's possible to obtain lower renewal fees elsewhere and will just have to transfer some of my domain names away from Go Daddy if they don't eventually bring down the price of their renewal fees. Even without Go Daddy discount codes the price for renewing domain names was lower than what it currently is.

I do give a huge compliment for Go Daddy for having wonderful customer service but their new renewal fees are not so affordable if you own many domain names.

@thewizardofsales, i completely agree with you. it is however just bad marketing tactic to have ridiculously high prices. earlier things were often ignored because of the presence of good codes.

they might get half the customers to sign up for their DDC membership, but they would permanently loose the other half (but still profitable customers). might make sense from pure profit/cost point of view for Godaddy but leaves a dent on their brand image.

I agree with you. Go Daddy was known for having everyday low renewal and hand-reg fees. These new higher fees take away from Go Daddy's brand and image and what they stood or were known for.

I love all these cheap promo codes, but without cheaper renewal codes GD is about to lose me. I have been most happy with them ove the last decade, but that is quickly changing,

I might sign up for their "club" but to for me to that and $15 names....they are ticking off a person that does a fair amount of business with them.

I have a different opinion and I think their marketing strategy is actually great. The strategy is geared towards - real domain users - not domain flippers and this is the way it should be. If you plan to build a proper site or business and you register a domain for two bucks, one year is enough time to build your stuff, see if its profitable and then I'm sure if the site makes $xxx profit no one would moan about $15 renewal fees.

Unfortunately the coupons have been long abused by silly people who would register hundreds or thousands of silly names for $2 just to flip them for $3-$4 and then moan about proper renewal fees when they are left with unsold domains.

Was it good when you lads paid just a couple of bucks for registration instead of full price? Of course it was, right? Then why everyone moans about renewals?

I for one, I'm 100% against any sort of coupons, let people pay the full price and perhaps this industry won't be so flooded with low quality domains, cheap and shady domainers and so on... rant over! :)

DynaDot and name.com both have better everyday renewal prices. Their coupons aren't great though so they don't get the rep GoDaddy does. DynaDot's $500 prepay for bulk pricing is a good deal if you have a lot of domains or want to buy extra time.

godaddy prob just trying to recoup some cash after buying afternic, what a great way to cut the promo codes and catch out all those customers with domains to renew who went crazy last year with those .99 codes.

I'm with Fabulous with Tier 1 pricing $8.49 - I only use the GD codes for quick transfer's and cheap buys otherwise I'm very happy at Fabulous can't beat that CP with no clutter plus so many features and tools flipping amazing customer service and security is outstanding.

A more economic strategy:

Transfer to Name.com for $8.25, then after 1 year transfer back to Godaddy at $1.99.

If you are the whois privacy dude:

Transfer to Name.com for $8.25 (free privacy included), then after 1 year transfer to Namesilo for $8.39 (free privacy included). No more BS coupons needed.

If you are a whois privacy dude, and sick-and-tired of transferring around:

Transfer to Namesilo for $8.39, and stay there for $8.99 standard renewals. (free privacy all the time)

I like namesilo. Flat fee, no upsells, just reg and manage your domain name.

They seem to be in the business of improving their site with new features vs finding more ways to get you to buy something else.

I would go for Arvixe.com

I currently have over 40 domains hosted with them & the transfer/renewal charges are from $6 - $9.99 (max) depending on the extension.

They also offer a free domain for lifetime with their hosting packages which is really nice too.

Sounds like basic business to me (when you can afford it)..Offer a bunch of dirt cheap registrations and transfers, then boost prices up when it comes time for renewals. Look at HostGator and their $0.01 hosting deal - It certainly isn't $0.01 after the first month :)

Aside from that, I do see GD losing allot of money here. I've been thinking about posting a thread just like this and I think my suggestion for transfers would be NameSilo.

I really dislike that godaddy is trying to force DDC on us and renewal codes are a joke if you can find one. $8.67 and $15 is huge difference, and forcing a "club" on me doesnt play well with me. My enom account was first and now my rices are much cheaper. Enom used to be who I trusted most, and then godaddy started making ...working with them easier. I've tried most of the others, but had always preferred GD because of my business and most have a GD account.

I am most unpleased with GD right now. I am likely going to join the club, but I do feel this rice jump and this new plan shows no respect for us, and I expect people I do business for a decade to treat me a little better than this.

Most disappointed in them.
