Sedo's Partnership with Domainsbot.com

I just received the email below from Sedo. I'm wondering if anyone can tell me how Sedo/DomainsBot select which names to display on the registration page? Godaddy is one of hte partners so I tried it on there with a few names, and all the "premium names" from Sedo that showed up had prices above the minimum $60 (meaning no min price set). Does this mean that if I wish to have my names included in this display I need to set min bids?

EDIT TO ADD: Now htat I look more closely, it looks like it's pulling the "Price" from Sedo's entry and letting the user at the registrar buy it right there for that price. I hope Sedo clarifies this.

Interestingly, I can remember times that I've met the "price" (which displays as "Sellers Expectation") on a name at Sedo and the seller didn't accept it and jacked it up. Guess a seller can no longer do that.

Strategic Partnership with DomainsBot

Sedo announced a strategic partnership with DomainsBot, the domain semantic search engine. Under this new partnership, a visitor searching for a domain name on a registrar or Webhosting company's site that has integrated the DomainsBot suggestion tool can now find search results of quality, related domain names that are available to register, as well as domain names that are for sale on Sedo's secondary market. "This partnership provides an enormous amount of value to service providers by increasing the domain registration rate and adding a new revenue stream without additional costs," said Mark Klein, Sedo's Director of Business Development " The tool itself adds tremendous value to the customer experience by making it increasingly easy for people to find a domain name that fits their needs."

When a Webhost company or Registrar integrates and displays the Sedo portion of the domain suggestion tool to its users, Sedo will pay the costs that would normally have to be paid to Domainsbot for the queries executed and will also pay the service provider commissions of any transactions that come through Sedo.

"Having Sedo sponsor our name suggestion is a terrific win-win for the entire market," said Emiliano Pasqualetti, DomainsBot's Chief Operating Officer."This gives registrars the opportunity to increase their sales and profit from the exponentially growing secondary market at no cost, and registrants the advantage to find the most relevant domains available for sale in one place."

DomainsBot, founded in Rome, has been active in the domain name industry since 1999. Over the last two years DomainsBot has taken over the leading position in the domain name suggestion market, working with such registrars as GoDaddy, Tucows, and Register.com. DomainsBot is now extending its offerings into the secondary domain name market, providing essential tools to domainers for name generation and analysis. To learn more about DomainsBot visit

Hmmm, this seemed to me like a pretty important topic.

This is crazy -- a new way to sell domains to unsophisticated buyers at high asking prices, and no one is interested in it. I'm taking this to DNF. If someone becomes interested in the topic find it over there.
