domains What GoDaddy Won't Tell You

Spaceship Spaceship
Go Daddy’s people are standing by via phone and Internet chat, but there’s a few things you aren't going to hear from GoDaddy’s finest.

WHO SAID DISCO(UNT) IS DEAD?

Okay, so the days of using 99 cent coupons to register HomemadeMiniPickles.com for your grandmother‘s secret recipe are over, but there are still coupons available and you should be taking advantage of them.
  • If you are a new account with a fresh credit card, you can get a single dot com for $2.99 (1st year price) when you register for 2 years or more by going here (select "Domain Deals"). Additional years at standard price.
  • After that, get as many dot com's as you can using the codes PHD3 and REV10 by paying only $8.49 apiece. They’ll work multiple times for multiple domains. This is a better deal than the Discount Domain Club price of $8.29 (not including the ICANN fee of $0.18) that requires a $120 annual fee.
  • There are some perks with the Discount Domain Club, like free Domain Auction membership, discounts on other TLD's, etc. If you decide to go for the DD Club purchase, use the coupon code DDCDS2015 and get 30% off (special thanks to Shane for the code).
  • Got the winning bid at a GoDaddy auction? Using coupon code CJCRMN35 will get you 35% off on the renewal fee at the time of checkout.
For more squeal-of-a-deal coupon codes, check out the amazing NamePros thread that’s dedicated solely to GoDaddy Coupons. The coupons may be affiliate codes, but they are not mine.

FRIENDS DON’T LET FRIENDS BUY DRUNK

In the old days when I went to college, we got drunk and ran across the campus naked. But now? You youngin’s are celebrating your inebriation by buying domain names.

Yeah, domain names like DeepFriedPixels and PronShd (both in dot com of course). If you don’t believe me, just read this story at Yahoo News.

Should you become the unintended victim of a night of Internet debauchery, don’t worry. You can get a refund!
  • Many domain name registrations are fully refundable within 5 days of the time of purchase.
  • Monthly products can be refunded if cancelled within 48 hours.
  • Annual products can be refunded (prorated) if cancelled within 45 days of purchase.
  • Automatic one-year renewals may be cancelled within 45 days but manual renewals have a refund window of only 5 days.
GoDaddy is not so forgiving with auctions and other products, so check the refund policy and read the fine print carefully.

RESURRECTING THE DEAD

Did you forget to renew your favorite domain? No worries, you can rise like a Phoenix and live again! The domain can be yours a second time at no extra cost for up to 12 days 18 days after expiration. You can even grab it for several weeks after that by paying a $80 penalty or you can transfer it to another registrar at the receiving registrar's standard transfer-in price to avoid the $80 fee. See the GoDaddy help page for more details.

So if you’re hungover, got amnesia, or are just plain stupid and forgetful like me - don’t worry, GoDaddy’s got your back with an array of coupons, refunds, and second chances that are sure to keep your money-making, domain train, right on track.

Have you got a “domains I bought under the influence” story? Know any GoDaddy tips or tricks? Tell us about it in the comment section below.

Been contacted by uniregistry numerous time asking me to join their registrar (never joined any of their mailing lists so I'm not sure how I ended up with these emails, maybe because I use their domainnamesales platform for a couple of my domains ). They even offered me custom pricing (which was nice I admit).

In the end I didn't choose uniregistry for 2 simple reasons:

1. They couldn't go under $8.47 per .com renewal and that's what I'm paying at Godaddy. So it makes no sense to me to make the effort to transfer around 700 domains to uniregistry when it's cheaper (and less time-consuming) for me to renew them at Godaddy.

2. End-users usually know Godaddy. Whenever I do a domain transaction buyers feel more secure imo because they know the domain is at a registrar that is globally known and trusted. How many end-users know Uniregistry?

like with any registry.. godad or unireg.. in the end of day its about you emailin them personally. telling how many things you want to transfer/renew, and then asking to make you a deal. most registrars will be happy to nego, and there will always be those who will want you bad enough for client to do better deal than godad.
