Advice Needed: Taxes for Domain Purchases

Domain names and taxes have always been two subjects closely intertwined. Depending on what country you’re in, your domain acquisitions and sales may be treated differently when it comes to paying taxes.

Here, an investor reveals that they purchased a domain on a payment plan and spent $1,400 on domain renewals in 2021 without making a sale. Does that mean that the investor can write off the money spent on domains as a loss?

Should I Partner With a Business?

If you own a premium domain that would benefit a company in a particular industry, possibly if you have a category-defining domain. Would you consider a partnership where a business utilizes your domain for a percentage of a company’s profits?

This is the scenario being considered by one domain investor who would maintain ownership of a domain name while leasing it to a company in exchange for a 25% profit. Has anyone done this before? Is it a lucrative means of developing your domain in a worthwhile manner?

Thanks for an interesting and diverse compilation of topics, @James Iles

Would be nice to know what price apes.com sold for!

GD acquisition of DNAcademy is huge, but in a way them getting Michael Cyger as a full-time employee is, in my opinion, even more valuable to them. He brings a wealth of knowledge, analytical skills, and superb communication, and so much good will around the domain community because he is such a positive, helpful and empathetic person.
