The most popular discussions this week include the change of PayPal’s dispute policy and how it affects domain name sellers who choose not to use escrow services, 50 companies that switched from .COM to a new gTLD, .OOO registry recall of domains 9 months after their registration, and an article by Elliot Silver on investing in ngTLD’s.

PayPal Dispute Policy
What recourse, if any, do you have as a buyer or seller of a domain name when you choose to use the PayPal payment option with the new refund policy that PayPal recently put into place?

50 Companies Change to a new gTLD
It’s been reported that 50 companies have changed their .com to a new generic Top Level Domain name. Is this a sign that ngTLD’s are catching on to the general public? Is .com losing traction? Or simply that webmasters now have more options?

.OOO Registry Recalls
It appears as if the operators of the .ooo registry have recalled several one character domain names, including T.ooo and S.ooo; not hours, days, or even weeks after finding out their mistake, but 9 months after. At what time should a mistake be grandfathered in, if any? Can registries be allowed to seize a domain claiming error whenever they please? What if a large business was built on the domain name during that time?

Gambling on new gTLD’s
Elliot Silver posted an article on the pros and cons of dabbling with new gTLD’s on his blog. In this, he also covered one of issues that is brought up most of the time in debates over investing in this space: being late to the game doesn’t necessarily mean you will be unsuccessful. Elliot’s business was still able to flourish while speculating on .com domains in the mid-2000s. It’s sparked a conversation worth a read on both his blog and on NamePros.
