Spaceship Spaceship
Earlier this week, we published an interview with Dave CEO Jason Wilk based around his recent acquisition of the Dave.com domain name. It’s a fascinating interview and it’s interesting to document Jason’s though process behind acquiring such a desirable premium domain. We have published over thirty Inside Interviews to date, which can be found in our archive if you have missed any, or need to refer back to them.

Here’s this week’s Top Topics.

Why Do We Choose “Make Offer”?

When domain investors list their domain names for sale at domain marketplaces such as Afternic or Sedo, there are many options for listing each domain. The most important part of any aftermarket listing is the price. Typically, there are several options including “make an offer” and “buy now”.

This discussion is asking why so many domain names are listed on the aftermarket as “make offer” listings without giving an appropriate indication of a possible sales price range. Should all aftermarket listings give an indication of the owner’s asking price?

Which Domain Names Look Better as a New gTLD Rather Than a .COM?

The subject of new gTLDs (new domain name extensions) has divided the domain industry immensely, and always causes a lively debate. Here, a domain investor has asked the community to post domain names that they think “look better” as a new gTLD rather than a .COM. Some suggestions include fresh.flowers, dance.club and luxury.company.

As ever, the new gTLD discussion has been popular, with veteran investor Rick Schwartz posting a series of responses, his first NamePros contributions in several years.

Why Confidentiality Agreements Suck!

When dealing in five, six and seven figure sales, confidentiality agreements are often requested by one of the parties involved in order to keep details of the sale out of the public eye. Here, @MapleDots tells the community about a six figure offer that they turned down due to the buyer asking the seller to sign a confidentiality clause.

Should this investor sign a confidentiality agreement in order to close a six figure sale? Whilst the seller is averse to signing a confidentiality clause, investor George Kirikos has suggested that a non-disclosure agreement could be agreed upon if it expired after a certain amount of time, such as one year.

What would you do in this situation?

I Bought a Great Domain at Auction. Now It’s Been Canceled

Two days after winning an auction for TheInsurance.com on GoDaddy’s expired domains platform, this investor noticed that the domain name was no longer listed in their account. According to the domainer, the domain was renewed by its previous owner, which is acceptable based on GoDaddy’s current regulations.

This situation has sparked a debate. Should GoDaddy change their policy when it comes to auctioning expiring domain names? Should a domain name only be auctioned off after the deadline for the original registrant to renew the name has passed?

Is There a .COM Price Crash?

Domain investor @Rhythm8 has created a discussion this week arguing that there a .COM price crash could be happening right now. This investor’s source for this statement is a list of domain names that have been sold recently for less than they did a couple of years ago.

Does this signify a .COM price crash? The overall result of the poll attached to this discussion is an overwhelming “no”, but what’s your opinion?

Bonus: New Exclusive Marketplace for Domains

NamePros administrator Eric Lyon announced this week that a brand new marketplace is now live on NamePros. This new marketplace will allow business account holders and VIP members access to a private area of the website in order to buy and sell domains. The exclusive area gives a greater level of privacy and restricts search engines from accessing the marketplace.
