Spaceship Spaceship
In this week's Top Topics, NamePros reaches an incredible milestone and the millionth member introduces themselves. Elsewhere, we discuss the state of the brandable domain market and an investor reveals that they sold a four-letter .COM domain for $9,000.

I Am the Millionth Member!

For some time, the domain community has been speculating on when NamePros would surpass the one million member milestone. It turns out that this incredible feat was achieved this week, and the millionth member has been confirmed as @SoftEdge, the owner of a cyber security company in the Netherlands.

The countdown to the millionth member came with a competition to guess the exact date and time of the millionth sign-up. Domainer @Yaffa won this competition, and chose two tickets to NamesCon 2018 as their prize.

What’s The State of the Brandable Market?

Brandable domain names such as those seen on Brandbucket.com have been a popular investment choice for many domainers. In this discussion, an investor has put forward the argument that the market may be flooded with too many brandable domain names, which could reduce the chance of a sale.

Is this something that other brandable domain investors have noticed? Is it worth investing in brandable domain names now? Have your opinion in the discussion.

I Sold EPCS.com for $9,000

Domain investor @Moosan shared the news this week that they have just completed the sale of EPCS.com. This four-letter .COM sold thanks to a listing on Afternic’s system, reaching a price of $9,000. According to WHOIS, the domain name is still in Afternic’s escrow. There’s currently no clue as to the buyer.

The domain’s seller stated in this discussion that he acquired the domain for $999, which could be considered expensive based on other recent wholesale prices for similar four-letter .COM’s. However, in light of the $9,000 offer, it was an excellent buy!

Should I Invest In New Domain Extensions?

Since the first new domain extensions were introduced several years ago, domain investors have formed strong opinions about the potential of new extensions (new gTLD’s), and whether they are worthy of investment. Here, a new domain investor is asking for advice as to whether acquisitions of new gTLD’s should be considered by a new domainer.

As always, the question has triggered a large response with some domainers advocating new extensions, whilst others recommend sticking to .COM. What do you think?

What Happened to GoDaddy Auctions?

Earlier this week, there was a very odd occurrence that was documented in this discussion. GoDaddy’s auction platform introduced a valuation tool very recently, which aims to give potential buyers an idea of the domain’s valuation. The tool has caused some controversy, but it seems the tool has also caused some rogue bidding activity.

According to @ikehook of DSAD.com, a total of 11,000 domain names being auctioned on May 23rd received bids, compared with two-hundred domain names for May 22nd. It is thought that this increase in activity could be down to GoDaddy’s reintroduction of their valuation tool.
