Spaceship Spaceship
In this week's edition of Top Topics, we discuss the plethora of new gTLD's that are currently on the market, asking whether any extension will survive and thrive in the future. We also find out more information about an investor's first-ever sale, and an investor asks about the difficult decision of letting a domain expire.

Eric Lyon Lost Everything in the Houston Flood

Many of you will be aware that Hurricane Harvey is currently causing damage to many parts of Texas and Louisiana. News bulletins have been full of stories of destruction, but there’s a far more personal story that is unfolding. NamePros community administrator Eric Lyon lives in Houston with his wife Amanda and their eighteen-month old child. This week, Eric reported that his family lost everything in the flooding, prompting the domain community to come together.

Domainer George Verdugo created a GoFundMe page that is aiming to raise a total of $15,000 to help Eric and his family as they look to rebuild. Many of you have interacted with Eric in the past, and you’ll know that he has played an important part in transforming NamePros into the incredible community that it’s become today. If you wish to donate, you can do so here. A live auction is also in the works and is currently being planned by Raymond Hackney (@equity78).

Which New gTLD’s Will Survive?

A domain investor has asked the community for their opinion on which new gTLD’s will survive far into the future. Will most extensions survive? Will they be relevant? Will any challenge .COM’s popularity?

How Did You Feel After Your First Sale?

This domain investor closed their first-ever domain sale just two weeks ago for a total of $700 from a very small initial investment and naturally felt elated to have secured their very first deal. This domainer is asking the community to describe their own first-ever sale and how they felt about it. Was it happiness, regret, or a desire to close another sale?
