Spaceship Spaceship
In this week's Top Topics, we take a look at a potential deal involving one of Rick Schwartz's most prized domain names and we also explore the value of cryptocurrency domain names after the recent sale of BitcoinCash.org. Elsewhere, investors ask about the effectiveness of Afternic's price request system and a domainer asks for advice after receiving a cease and desist letter.

Has Rick Schwartz Struck a Deal for Property.com?

Domain investor @Rick Schwartz has completed many six and seven figure sales including the $8.88 million Porno.com deal and the $3 million sale of Candy.com. Despite selling some great domains, Rick still owns a portfolio of several thousand high-value domain names, including Queen.com, Ass.com and Stud.com.

This week, a domainer noticed that one of Rick’s domains, Property.com, has started to redirect to a website for HGTV’s Property Brothers TV show. Whilst the domain is still listed as being owned by Rick, it’s possible that he has leased this name.

Where Do Sellers Get Their Valuations From?

It’s the prerogative of any domain name owner to price their domain as they see fit. Whilst many domainers price their names based on data such as similar sales, but every so often you may come across six or seven figure asking prices for domain names that have been registered recently.

This domainer is asking the community how valuations are determined. Are domains valued based on metrics or based upon an automated appraisal price?

How Often Does an Afternic Price Request Result in a Sale?

One of the most popular marketplaces for domain names is Afternic. With the ability to put your domains in front of millions of potential buyers each month, domain investors often list their entire portfolios on the platform. If an interested party likes one of your domain names but it doesn’t have a set price, Afternic will email you to ask for the domain’s price.

In this discussion, a domainer is asking whether there is any correlation between the number of sales at Afternic and the number of price requests that are received. Do price requests ever turn in to sales?

Tell Me How to Reply to This

A domain investor has asked the community for help after receiving a cease and desist letter from cosmetics company Revlon. This investor owns the domain Tevlon.com and Revlon’s brand protection staff feel that this infringes on Revlon’s marks.

How should this domainer respond to the cease and desist request? Should they hand the domain over or should they argue their case?

Do You See Value in Cryptocurrency Domains?

There was a report this week that the domain name BitcoinCash.org sold for $48,888 just months after being hand-registered. With this information in mind, many domainers may be tempted to register their own cryptocurrency domains in the hope of receiving a substantial offer.

This discussion, which includes a poll, asks whether cryptocurrency domain names are valuable. Do you see value in cryptocurrency domain names in general?
