Are You a Domainer? Take the Test

Being a successful domain name investor takes a certain amount of skill, which can be learned by reading blog posts and interacting with fellow investors on domaining forums. Here, we have a short quiz to see whether your domain name knowledge is up to scratch. It’s a fun test that should take very little time to complete, since the format is multiple choice and the questions are fairly straight forward.

Established domain investors should be aiming for a full 100% on this little quiz. If you do get less than that, then you know you still have more to learn when it comes to the basics of domain investing.

Where Did You Buy Your Most Recent Domain?

There are so many options as to where you can buy your domain names now, with investment-grade domains available via a myriad of marketplaces, forums and registrars. This discussion asks where you bought your most recent domain name.

As you might expect, the responses to this question vary greatly, although GoDaddy auctions seems to be the most popular destination based on current answers. I personally completed my most recent purchase here on NamePros, but have also acquired domains at GoDaddy recently as well.

Is There a Downside to Pushing a Domain to Auction at GoDaddy?

After receiving an offer on a domain name listed in GoDaddy’s marketplace, a seller has the option to push the domain name to an auction. The idea is that the initial offer acts a base price, allowing the owner to either attract other potential buyers to the auction or hope that someone else spots the auction and wants to bid. It can be a popular way to increase the potential sales price of a domain name, but is there a downside?

Here, domain investors are discussing what could happen if a domain name is pushed to auction after an offer is received. It initially looks as though there’s little downside to this tactic, but investors have brought forward several interesting potential scenarios that should be considered.

My Buyer Has Disappeared. What Do I Do?

Outbound sales can be a profitable way of creating revenue from your domain names by proactively reaching out to potential end users. One investor has been performing outbound sales this week, but has encountered a problem after a buyer showed interest in the domain name, which the investor offered along with a “Buy Now” price.

The problem? The potential buyer seems to have disappeared. This usually means that the buyer has changed their mind and is no longer interested in buying the domain name, but is there anything that this investor can do in order to close a sale? Should they phone the buyer directly, or follow up with emails? What would you do in this situation?

One of the great things about domain name investing is that the market is open to almost everyone, since the cost to acquire a domain name can be very low. Investors operate on many different levels, which is evident in this discussion, where we ask you to disclose the highest price you’ve ever paid to acquire a domain name.
