information Top Topics: A $7,500 .TV Sale is Announced; How Many .ORG Names Do You Own?...

Spaceship Spaceship
In this week's Top Topics, we look at a new .TV sale that makes the top twenty list for 2019, and investors discuss the .ORG extension after the recent news that could mean that .ORG prices are drastically increased. Elsewhere, we get an end-user's perspective on a domain name purchase and investors debate Tesla's latest brand, and their "cybrtrk.com" domain name.

I Sold ATM.tv for $7,500

Veteran .TV domain investor @Ammudamus seems to have a regular stream of .TV sales, with the latest deal announced by this domainer being the sale of ATM.tv for $7,500. Verified by DNJournal, the sale ranks comfortably in the top twenty .TV sales for 2019.

There are more details about the transaction in the discussion, but the buyer looks to be Daniel Aharonoff, a technology investor and entrepreneur. As of writing, the domain forwards to Daniel's own website.

How Many .ORG Names Do You Own?

It has been a defining week for the .ORG domain extension. The .ORG registry has been acquired by a private equity firm, Ethos Capital. Although a statement in a press release said that .ORG names will be "reasonably priced", some investors are worried about possible price hikes.

In this discussion, investors are asked to reveal how many .ORG domains they currently hold, and whether a price increase would influence their decisions to either maintain their ownership or let the names expire.

The End-User Buyer's Perspective for Acquiring a .COM

The end-user perspective for a domain purchase can be enlightening to both investors and other end-users. It's relatively rare for end-users to share their story of a domain purchase since many want to keep the whole process confidential. However, when a company gives their perspective on a domain deal, it's usually highly beneficial and educational.

Here, Page Howe has shared an old Medium article from a company founder about acquiring the WorkHound.com domain name. Page has listed some of his own takeaways from the founder's story. Read the Medium article and see if you agree.

Tesla Purchased "cybrtrk.com"

In light of Tesla's recent announcement about the addition of a truck to its line of automobiles, most of the discussion has centered round Tesla's branding, with the company apparently calling their new truck the "CyberTruck", a term harking back to the early days of the Internet.

There has also been branding around the term "cybrtrk", with Tesla filing trademarks for both "CyberTruck" and "cybrtrk". This being a domaining blog, we're interested in the domain name angle. In this discussion, an investor reveals that Tesla either acquired or registered the domain cybrtrk.com at the beginning of November. Interestingly, the company hasn't secured cybertruck.com.

Thanks for a great run-down @James Iles! I had missed the end-user perspective post from @Page Howe until you mentioned it.

I think the .org registry sale is going to be big news for some time. I think it is not so much the direct impact on our costs unless renewal go really high (since we can renew good names years in advance if desired at current rates) but will it indirectly affect .org sales through how end users perceive the change in ownership. I am not sure either way.

Something that I have not seen discussed, for those who are decreasing .org holdings, will you increase the holdings in something else, or simply decrease overall domain holdings? I wonder if the negative reactions to .org ownership change and cap removal may be to breathe a bit more life into .net or possibly .co or .io as other alternatives to .com.

Thanks again for great summary.

Thanks for sharing this, very interesting. I wonder how much I would get for my GLUE.tv domain?
It has already been appraised recently.

Webengine, thanks for that. Maybe to an end user it could get this sort of price. Theproblem is finding the end user who would fall in love with it and buy it.

congrats on the sale. But I don't understand how they will use atm.tv

It's short & memorable. Most people know what ATM stands for, it's a cash machine. Marketers selling affiliate money making offers, or Biz opps offers could use this name. I think it's great with potential.

Great sale, I also have my EARS.tv which I priced at low end x,xxx and waiting for the right end user too. Good luck to all of you with your sales!

Another possibility I think is a series based around the acronym for a phrase such as AtTheMoment. There is a Polish TV station using letters ATM (and probably many others since A is start of many regions and countries) and a Spanish video production services company on ATM.
