With tomorrow being Thanksgiving in the USA, the majority of American domainers may be switching off their screens and spending time with family and friends. I wanted to write a Thanksgiving based article because although I’m not American, and do not celebrate Thanksgiving, it’s always a holiday that’s fascinated me, especially with the phenomenons of Black Friday and Cyber Monday that have become an integral part of many people’s Thanksgiving long-weekend celebrations. Black Friday and Cyber Monday have become a part of global culture, with many commercials dedicated to Black Friday in my area.
This being a domaining blog, I wanted to share the story of Thanksgiving.com. For years, the domain name Thanksgiving.com was dormant, with just a few adverts listed on the parked page. The thousands of people who visited Thanksgiving.com every year were likely to have been disappointed by the lack of useful content the name offered back then.
The owners of the domain were, and still are, DigiMedia; a company that owns some incredible domains including Cook.com, Bed.com and Dress.com. DigiMedia are famous for selling the domain name Box.com to Box, the online file sharing service that went public on the New York Stock Exchange in 2015. According to reports, Box bought Box.com from DigiMedia for just under $1 million.
They have also developed some of their domains, including FantasyFootball.com. Interestingly for this article, they also own Thankful.com, which looks to have been set up in the wake of 2013’s destructive Oklahoma tornado.
In 2014, a company called Grateful Ventures partnered with DigiMedia to produce a brand new website on Thanksgiving.com. Of course, the name Thanksgiving.com is one of the best seasonal domain names of all time, and Grateful Ventures decided to help DigiMedia utilise the traffic by offering an incredible amount of information for free to anyone who visits the site. At the time of release, Grateful Ventures CEO said:
The website has attracted a lot of fans, with the site’s Facebook page now boasting over 54,000 likes, and while there are no accurate traffic statistics for the website available, the domain will likely receive thousands of visitors per day in the weeks leading up to Thanksgiving. Unfortunately, it looks as though the producers of the site haven’t grasped the art of SEO yet, since the domain doesn’t show up in the first few pages of a number of Google searches for terms based around Thanksgiving.
However, just over two years since the site launched, it looks like the Thanksgiving.com site is going strong, with a team of writers contributing well-researched articles with professional photography that can only benefit the site and the value of the domain name itself. The site contains hundreds of recipes, tips and fun facts that could be useful to you or your family this Thanksgiving.
It’s great to see such a stellar domain name being used in this way. Congratulations to Grateful Ventures and to DigiMedia for allowing them to produce this site.

After creating many successful publications, the experience of creating Thanksgiving.com is extremely different. Being a part of something that’s so deeply at the heart of the holiday season, and being able to work with this team year after year to not only create high quality content but also to find creative ways to touch people’s lives is very gratifying.
