The perceived value of individual domain names is one of the most talked about subjects within the domain industry. Domain valuation is also one of the most difficult skills to successfully master, with a combination of sales data and experience often necessary to accurately determine a domain’s worth.

In this edition of our Expert Exchange, we ask our panel of industry leaders:

How Do You Determine What a Domain Is Worth?

Nat Cohen (@Telepathy), Owner of Telepathy.com

Shane Cultra (@Domain Shane), Domain Investor & Publisher of DSAD.com

Frank Schilling (@Frank.Schilling), CEO of Uniregistry

Giuseppe Graziano (@Giuseppe Graziano), CEO of GGRG Domain Brokerage

    Interesting views.
For me, if a domain is untoppable, it has the highest value.

It's rather a subjective question. Domains are a bit like the art/antiques business, they are unique 'one-offs' It's what someone with cash wants or needs. To evaluate a price I look at namebio, I look at DNJournal, I'm a member of Michael Cyger's DNAcademy, I don't like Flippa as their prices are not realistic. I look at the prices Sedo achieves. The higher the search + CPC is a good indicator to arrive at a price.

Neither NameBio or Estibot is the right step for evaluating your domain price. That should be very fatal.
Be wise. Before you sell your valuable domain, you must conduct a perfect research to know the following:

    1) The commercial or service worth of the domain name to the end user.
    2) The national or global patronage the end user will attract should he finally buy your domain name.
    3) The age of your domain (though not very important because some buyers are scared when your domain is too old, they see it as a bad market that non refused to buy over many years)
4)The exposure your domain name will give the end user or buyer amidst his competitors
    5) The meaning, eligibility or soundness of your domain, etc
    6) Search engine rating on domain key word
    7) Previous sale reference of your similar domain

Having these points into consideration, you will therefore gain the ground to build a moderate selling price. However, don't fail to understand that domain business is not gambling. It is a recognized perfect market that allows your buyer the freedom to express his buying offer regardless the worth of your name. To give you further idea, if you intend selling the domain at between $15000 - $20000, you should be wise to request an asking selling price of $35000 (as an example). On bargain, you may be surprised to receive your customers buying offer in the range of $17000 - $22000 which absolutely should be a welcomed accepted price.

In consideration, your domain price is therefore determined on what your buyer is willing to pay prior to your final acceptance.

I totally agree upon these points! (y)

Each domain name must be estimated based on the kind of business in which it can be developed. IMO.
