auctions Domain Auction Highlights from DomainFEST Asia

Spaceship Spaceship
All bidding has now closed at the DomainFEST Asia auction with 4.cn. In all, there were thirteen NNN.com domains, one LL.com, forty-six LLL.com, and other excellent names such as text.com and soft.com.

Here are some of the highlights from the auction:

73.com failed to reach its reserve, but it did attract a high bid of $2.36 million. Had it sold, it would have been the highest public NN.com, but the reserve seemed to be very high.

YJ.com was another high-profile domain that didn't reach its reserve price; although, a bid of around $784,000 was placed. According to the auction page, the reserve price was between (roughly) $750,000 and $1.17 million, so it wasn't far from selling. There have been four public LL.com domain sales this year, ranging from $554,000 to $1 million.

8.xyz - a domain that Raymond Hackney blogged about earlier in the day - sold for $81,919 USD. According to NameBio, this is the highest .XYZ domain sale by a long way. The previous highest from NameBio's statistics is deals.xyz that sold in 2014 at NameJet for $8,113. Interestingly, 8.xyz didn't reach as high of a price as 8.co which sold for $115,000 at Heritage Auctions earlier this year.

ZHOU.com sold for $113,488 - it had a reserve price of just $1,500. In China, Zhou can refer to the Zhou Dynasty that lasted longer than any other Chinese dynasty. It's also the 10th most common surname in mainland China.

CBA.com was another name that failed to sell, even though it attracted a high bid of $104,000. The reserve price, for those who are interested, was between $156,000 and $235,000. Too high for a LLL.com domain?

2355.com hit its reserve price and sold for almost $52,000 - making it one of the higher NNNN.com domain sales of the year, behind 9595.com, 8788.com and 9555.com.

922.com attracted a bid of $485,000 and yet again, didn't reach its reserve price that was between (roughly) $392,000 and $784,000.

Bidding for Soft.com reached $31,000 - a price that was well away from its reserve price of $392,000 to $784,000. Similarly, Text.com reached just $15,000.

According to DomainFEST Asia's 12 NNN.com domains listed for sale, none of them met their reserve price. Each domain seemed to have bids into the six-figure range, but none sold. In most cases, the reserve price was between $392,000 and $784,000.

What can we learn from this auction as a community?

Firstly, China is still willing to invest large amounts of money into NN.com, NNN.com, NNNN.com, LL.com, LLL.com and LLLL.com domain names. Secondly, DomainFEST Asia had some extremely high reserve prices for the auction, and although many names attracted six and even seven figure bids, those reserve prices were just too high.

Do you have the full list of domains that were sold?

The main reason the reserve price was high is because the commission was 25%.

Strange, highlights are of non sales

@evirtual1 - it's more the fact that they attracted such high bids. 73.com not selling at $2.36m for me is a highlight. The domain may yet sell though.

@silentg I don't have a list of the final auction listings, but I know that the team behind the auction are working hard to produce more sales.
