sales Can't We All Glitter Along? ShipYourEnemiesGlitter.com Sold for $85,000

NameSilo
The website of the service that has been bashed for anything from being illegal to causing health risks from glitter exposure, ShipYourEnemiesGlitter.com, has sold today on the auction platform Flippa by the Australian entrepreneur, Mathew Carpenter.

Mathew advertised it as a website for sale that went viral, resulting in many news outlets such as Yahoo! and USA Today picking the service up and giving him more free exposure. In less than 4 days, he was able to receive $20,000 in sales and 2.5 million visitors before being overwhelmed by new orders, shutting the site down and listing it for sale.

The controversy in the first day of it being listing was entertaining enough, as was seeing all the copycat sites spring up and being listed for sale. However, the figures were better to follow for a site that blossomed overnight.

ShipYourEnemiesGlitter.com received 345 verified bids, a figure some said may never happen again. In addition to the bids, there were 117 comments made, Alexa shot up to a global rank of 20,835 and Majestic Trust and Citation Flow to 30/38.

The auction ended at $85,000. Combined with the approximate $20,000 revenue made, resulted in an easy 6 figure deal for him. That should be enough seed money for him to start another entrepreneurial adventure in the future.

Pales in comparison to the genius of Million Dollar Homepage - one million bucks selling pixels. The glitter guy could have kept the domain and active site going for a few months. Then again maybe those $20k in sales were orders that maxed out his ability to play the game and wanted to cash out quick.

I surely wouldn't want to pack, address, stamp and ship any more than 2,000 glitter gifts. :P

Definitely not a 1 man operation and he made away with more than enough money to fulfill the rest of his shipments, but that's all he'll be doing for the next few months.

That and laughing all the way to the bank. :xf.grin:

Or it could be, he got overwhelmed with orders?
You know, why he decided to sell?
Or did you not gather that part?
Plus he was dealing with a physical product./
Whereas the million pixel guy was dealing with, pixels!

The buyer also gets a kind of money back as 10,000 orders are pending for that website and it was sold for $85k......Great deal for the buyer also.

But One thing is there, Its all just craze for few days to few months then will be slow down or shut down- not a long-term business.

I would sell the pending orders for $120,000 or more to the new buyer if they are going to ship as well. That upsell may result in a lifetime customer, which has many friends that they'd love to give the gift of glitter to.

He's going to packing envelopes for a year! :xf.eek:

Smarter to sell his unfinished orders and leads than to move forward with packing, unless he is hiring. Though, that'd be an expense against future ventures.

Maybe it was purchased by some glitter manufacture, too much liability in its current state but many over look that. JMO, not a debate.

The seller rode the wave of viral and did a good job to sell it ASAP. In a month or two when the buzz dies down, this site won't be making $1k per month anymore. Not to mention the problem you have to pack all those orders out.
