sales Canada's Prime Minister Bought JustinTrudeau.com for $2,701

Spaceship Spaceship
Political domain names have made some major headlines in the past few years. In 2015, US Senator Rand Paul paid $100,980 for RandPaul.com and "Donald J. Trump for President, Inc." purchased ClintonKaine.com for $15,000.

Recently, another significant political domain purchase took place, albeit at a far lower sales price. The exact match domain for Canada's Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, sold at GoDaddy for $2,701 on April 18th, 2019. According to DomainIQ, the domain was initially registered in 2006, around the same time that Justin got more involved in Canada's Liberal Party.

Despite becoming the leader of the Liberal Party in 2013, and subsequently becoming Prime Minister in 2015, Justin and his Party has never held ownership of JustinTrudeau.com, although his Party owns JustinTrudeau.ca.

A member of Justin Trudeau's Liberal Party has now acquired JustinTrudeau.com via a GoDaddy auction, with the name now forwarding to Liberal.ca, the Liberal Party's home page.

Some may wonder why the Canadian Prime Minister would even consider paying a four-figure fee for his .COM domain, but I believe it is a smart strategic move.

There is a general election in Canada in October 2019, where Justin will be looking to get reelected as Prime Minister. Paying $2,701 for the domain is a defensive strategy that stops JustinTrudeau.com from potentially being used by opposition parties, in a way that the Trump Campaign did with ClintonKaine.com in 2016.

Thanks to @Bob Hawkes on Twitter for the tip.

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
I don't know the back story except its listing on NameBio and now it has moved from GoDaddy landing page to redirect to the Liberal Party of Canada. The name had been registered since 2006, long before he was leader. So not sure if it was allowed to lapse and they got it back, or someone held it and eventually decided this was the year to sell with an election in October in Canada. The name of the Conservative party leader, and both names in .ca, direct to the respective parties.

Never mind that

JustinTrudeauSucks.com is worth much more money.

Whoever votes for this moronic idiot deserves to get another four years of shirtless selfies with no substance other than to tax the hell out of the people of Canada.

ohhhh.... so sorry.... this is not the political forum :xf.laugh::xf.laugh::xf.laugh:

$2,701 is a steal for this name. Obviously the name was put in auction without reserve?

@MapleDots LOL... He has enough new citizens to vote him in. USA made a huge mistake for backing out from conquering Canada in 1812. At that time, around 7.5 million people were living in the United States, compared to only about 500,000 in Canada, many of whom were of French or American descent rather than British. The second mission would have been easy ride.

Canada would have been better off as America.

I disagree

The States and Canada would all have been off better as a part of Texas :xf.laugh::xf.laugh:

Don't know why, but I have always admired Texas....

It was an expired auction I believe. Which seems surprising.

Seriously, I wish a new Union could be formed. One 'Big Giant Nation', both in power, economy, and land mass.

Call it Texas if you like :xf.grin::xf.grin:

But let it just happen

I guess the us can still conquer Canada...

But then all that culture would be gone. Instead of the French only cities... they'd all start speaking "American", get fat, and start going to Wal-Mart :/

UDRP is a bad publicity for a president. Let alone puppet presidents who wants to be politically correct at all time.

My thoughts..never mind Texas, go big or stay home..California is the state!
Plus the (.ca) extension will be more in demand

Smart move by the political party..wondering if other poltical "players" name are taken..

Smart move actually, as a lot of "famous people" who have went the UDRP path and failed (or even succeeded) have gotten roasted online for "beating up the little guy". Sometimes the bad publicity really isn't worth sending a pile of lawyers to "go for the .COM", even if you have a panelist in your pocket.

Justin Trudeau and Prime Minister don't belong in the same conversation either, but we're forced to deal with that.
