Today, it has been revealed that the two-letter .COM domain name MZ.com has been acquired by American company Machine Zone, a leading video game developer with 550 employees, based in Palo Alto.
The news of this acquisition was first announced by Jamie Zoch of DotWeeky via his Twitter account. According to Jamie, the domain name was acquired using the brand protection service Marksmen.
Recently, the domain name has started displaying the Machine Zone website, confirming the company's purchase. George Kirikos then shared the news that six weeks ago, the domain had an asking price of $3.25MM, according to a DomainTools.com screenshot.
Machine Zone's most profitable product is Game Of War: Fire Age, which receives a daily revenue of $1.18MM according to recent estimates. With a $6 Billion valuation last year, a $3.25MM domain name is well within their means and is another example of an end-user acquiring a valuable virtual asset.
