sales After $715 Million in Funding, View Acquires View.com

Spaceship Spaceship
Another highly valuable one-word .COM is off the market forever as View, an "intelligent glass" company based in California, has acquired the domain View.com from a New York-based company. Founded in 2006, View had a mission to reinvent the window with something called dynamic glass.

This idea proved successful and the company raised $6.5 million in Series A funding in 2008. In the next decade, View raised a total of $715.5 million, with the latest round coming in June 2017 totaling $200 million. Despite the amount of funding at the company's disposal, they didn't own View.com.

Instead, View used ViewGlass.com whilst View.com was owned and operated by a DVD company in New York, who look to have been the original owners of the View.com domain.

The sale of View.com looks to have happened very recently, since View are still operating on ViewGlass.com and as of writing, View.com is displaying an error message.

The acquisition of View.com comes at the same time as View has filed a new trademark for View Sense, an Internet of Things electrical controller. With View.com, View has much more versatility in being able to produce and market other products that aren't necessarily glass related.

This is similar to Grab, who started life on GrabTaxi.com before acquiring Grab.com and venturing into other markets such as car sharing, rental, and delivery.

As of writing, the price paid for the domain is unknown.

Given their long history it would make sense that they have been after this domain name for a long time. As such the price is also likely very high. $10 million+?

Price was not anywhere close to 10 mil +

I was speaking with the owner earlier this year, and at that time he would have been VERY happy with a million dollars for the name. They previously had offers in the 100K range and were in discussions with Sedo to list it for $1 million.

Thank you for the information. Bit surprising given how great the domain is.
