news ICANN to terminate five new gTLDs

What happened to taking over? Why is it terminated now? Can I get a refund for the money we spent registering these domains?

ICANN have no obligation to take over TLD:s. In fact they're not even staffed to manage them.

I doubt it. You paid the registrar, not ICANN (unless you count the $0.18 ICANN fee).
