I would have lost that bet.
In every support interaction, there's a very aggressive push to promote this DDC product, often taking precedence over addressing the actual support issue, and even when the customer is dialing internationally. They employ a standardized script that calculates the purported "savings" on their highly priced products and services. In my case, the representative went so far as to add the product to my cart without asking.

Even worse are people that highlight their a Domain Academy graduate on their resume. Blind leading the blind. :ROFL:

I guess it is a near pure profit scenario for them. If they still allowed the $69/$79 pricing it would be a little more acceptable for me, but it boggles my mind that so many might pay 200+ for it.

Surely there will come a point the renewals + new pigeon total must decrease!?!? It is clear a hard core investor might benefit from the discounted pricing but unless they plan an aggressive push on X (look how much money can be made it you only had our courses) I would think diminishing returns are on the horizon.

In my case it has cost them 1000+ renewals for a few years...if they bring back the $79, I'll be moving names to them tomorrow instead of Spaceship.

So regular DDC members will get less but for the same price...

Sounds like the GD I know.

Their cash grab ethos is almost satire at this point.

Frankly, I envy GoDaddy's monopolistic business model:

1. Kick your customers in the balls.
2. Kick 'em again to let them know the first kick wasn't an accident.
3. PROFIT!

This is a terrible decision for Investor's but another stream of income for GoDaddy.

GoDaddy probably profits more from the existence of the aftermarket than domain investors.

They make money from both ends of the market.

First, through the auctions of expiring domain names. And thanks to the acquisition frenzy of domainers, the auction prices get pushed into the stratosphere. Which means more mullah for Daddy.

If you escape the auctions, you'll meet them at closeouts.

After you've paid them to acquire a decent domain name, you'll most likely list it on Afternic where GoDaddy gets to make more money OFF you.

You sell a domain and GD takes a minimum of 15%. That'll increase to 20% if you let them "boost" your listings. And you'll get penalised an additional 10% if you don't use their Nameservers like a good boy.

Fact is, GoDaddy is a pimp and we are their bitches.

That is the typical monopolistic mindset that GD are famous about. Basically what they are saying: we will charge you more for things you don't want and you have no option but to pay!

They increased DDC price twice in the past almost double, now they will increase it more and the bad thing is that they know domain investors can do nothing about it.

@GoDaddy I have a little honest advice for you: the world is changing, the future will reward creativity not lazy monopoly, focus on adding value not squeezing customers for profit, adding value and focusing on quality will achieve higher growth on the long run.

I have supported @GoDaddy over the years, but it's getting pretty close to a breaking point.

I can assure you I will not be paying a dime more for an "upgraded" plan.

GoDaddy is not really innovating anything. They are just using their monopolistic position to squeeze every penny they can from customers, from every angle.

I appreciate you posting that. I updated my previous tweet with this comparison.

I even used the more generous $9.99 "Basic" number, which was the most recent Archive.org screenshot.

It looks like that was raised from $7.99 to $9.99 sometime in the last year.

Paying $9.99/month to have $14.99 .COM renewals is absurd.

It is really absurd!

Godaddy are only creative in finding new ways for squeezing more money from the same bad service.

What are main DDC innovations?
1- Pay to get normal .com renewals instead of double? But I can get that for free at hundreds of registrars

2- Pay for self brokerage?!!! But that is free in all marketplaces!!

3- Expured Auctions and closeouts => there are many other options and better alternatives out there!!

Really just give me one real reason or adventage for using your DDC?

The only thing I needed DDC for was not to pay inflated renewal prices on expired auctions and closeout domains. What they "gained" by increasing DDC cost some time ago was me dropping DDC sub, stopping buying domains from GD, stopping keeping them at GD and eventually stopping using afternic (moved all domains to spaceship and offers to sedo). If I didn't do it back then, I sure as hell would do it now...
