Dan.com will soon migrate accounts to Afternic before shutting down. Afternic representatives have been open about Dan.com eventually shutting down. Today, the company published a timeline and migration plans. As of today, new clients can’t sign up for Dan.com accounts. Shortly, a four-week migration window will begin for moving Dan.com accounts to Afternic. Customers will...

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
Who could ever imagine they would close Dan like they did to Uniregistry? ;)

How to migrate?
I want to test Afternic with Boost for some months, then migrate further if no luck.

everyone told them to keep dan and switch all else to it.

they ignored everyone.

that says it all how they care for client views. sooner or later this approach will backfire

So I have to ask. What happens when godaddy comes calling with a nice 100 million offer to buy namepros?

Migrate to NamePros Landers instead
Just before this post I responded to an another offer that came in thru NPs landers.

I have the name, email, phone number, location, IP address (and more) info of the person making the offer.

As soon as Godaddy/Uniregistry/Afternic/Dan mutation gives the option to have the same info on leads for MY names, I will consider migrating back to its landers.

While it is difficult to blame Dan.com founders for taking GoDaddy's fat paycheck, it's still a huge betrayal to Dan.com users.

Really liked them.

Also, it seems the guys at GoDaddy are hellbent on dragging the industry kicking and screaming into the 19th Century.

Everything at Dan.com is superior to everything at GoDaddy/Afternic. The sensible thing to do would be to migrate to Dan.com not shut it down.

It's probably more likely that our hosting provider experiences a natural disaster and wipes us out. Our hosting provider is the same as Amazon.com.

And we've planned for the unforeseeable (e.g., natural disasters)! 😁 In addition to local backups, see our reply to @alcy below.

we pack our shit and migrate again
NamePros Landers are built to make it as easy as possible for you to switch to another service: Learn more.

Because we know how painful that is, and it doesn't need be. 😊

Migrate to NamePros Landers instead. 😊
There are many missing things compared to popular Marketplaces, there should be something like on my website, Atom and others, where end users can see domains, categorized, because not many go by the domain to the lander, they may just browse what is available and buy it.
And I not think is worth to offer free landers just to attract people to namepros, in my opinion end users should not have free access to NP's forums, everything domaining must be only for domainers, an insiders area. Else it more looks that NP's is promoting handregs, which benefits registrars in the end.

This is not far-fetched. Dollar signs beat everything. I like NP's response, seems they put in some sort of contingency plan which I'm not quite understanding actually. So the data is salvageable but then what?

We have too many Afternic threads recently.
Be careful, GD may come here buy Namepros and shut it down after 2 years.

We have a growing number of features that no other marketplace offers.

On average, NamePros Landers are:
  • Making improvement updates daily
  • Adding standard new features weekly
  • Releasing major new features monthly

In due time, we’ll have every meaningful feature that they have and a bunch of features that they don’t have.

Edited to add: a link to our latest round of updates.

It’s intriguing that GoDaddy is discussing a “migration” to Afternic.

According to NS measurements, there are at least 2.5 million active DAN.com landers. This is a pivotal moment for all DAN.com customers to consider whether they truly want to transition to Afternic, given the platform’s numerous technical issues, instability, and high commission fees.

NamePros Parking is currently the “hidden gem” with its free lander offering. The NamePros team is actively working on adding new features while attentively listening to the wishes of forum members to further enhance the landers. It’s remarkable and refreshing that such a relatively small team is achieving all this in a relatively short time.

Are we all invited to attend the funeral or has it already been done?

When Reza sold Dan.com to GoDaddy, the company turned to shit.
