I sold a Trademarked domain for $2400-$3000 before I knew about TM rules...

Back in December I sold a trademarked domain between $2500-$3000 and apparently got away with it scot-free.

It contained one of the following names in it: yahoo, google, twitter, amazon. Then the second word went great with the name.
(I don't want people to know exactly what it was.)

The buyer offered me through GoDaddy's domain buy service and we eventually agreed on the $2.5-$3k price.

I hand-regged it mid 2013 for just $1.17. So I was really happy with this sale at the time. But now I know about trademarked domain issues and don't know what to think.

If the powerhouse brand comes to the buyer and tries to take it, will I be involved with this at all? Would I have to possibly return the money?

Now that I think about it I am amazed that GoDaddy even allowed this transaction. If you saw this domain you would have no doubt that it is trademarked.

Oh, and the guy is already developing it and it really looks like he trying to come off as the actual brand. It's exactly the type of site that the powerhouse will come after.

I would like to hear what some other domainers think about this..

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
Try to find out who he is
maybe he's from the brand company or Google company (if your domain is like Goooglexxxx)
And ask Google about your domain whether it is allowed to buy/sell ?

You dodged a bullet and can walk away, of course now you understand to avoid names like this, the new owner should have known better. Now buy a lotto ticket, win the big one and have the best domaining story ever!!!

Buyer is the one holding the baby - why would you be in the dock?

Maxx is worried that he profited from a sale of their name.

Though I think with the size of the companies we are speaking about (3k is nothing to them) and if they want the name or are still concerned somehow about the domain involving their company, they may have the new owner just drop the domain. Will just send a cease and desist to the new owner and not bother with Maxx.

I will add this point: I would not even park a TM domain (let alone knowingly have one) to monetize as some companies will come after all your profits (plus the name).

why even boast

when your ass, could have been toast?

why divulge a mark in the name, and... say where it was sold?

why tell a story, that didn't have to be told?

why?

imo....

the battle, exists in the mind

trying to find

the right words,

to be spoken

:)

it's only a "wriz-zap", at the end!

I didn't post to boast.

:talk:

though could have been unintentional

still, now you'll know, what's unmentionable

not to mention the consequences,

should on this path..... you continue.

and the rhymes keep chiming

:talk:

chiming rhymes, never occurred to me

just putting together the message, with words in harmony

it ain't unique to me though,

cuz, others I know, got flow

and what they spit is as wet as mine

but you learn that kinda shiz-zit too...

in time!

puff-puff pass
;)

Oh, Biggie!

You're quite the poet

Don't you know it?

Practical verse

to calm the adverse

effects of TM selling

(But, please, no telling).

OP is only guilty

Of just being silly. [slant rhyme]

That he made money

through the sweet of illicit honey

is not very funny.

But OP seems to have learnt --

for the future, not to be burnt.

So let's give him a pass,

with subtle tap to his sorry a$$.
