noob question..

I have never bought a domain or sold a domain yet.. how does registration work? Say you buy a domain from somebody for $100, do you then have to also pay for the years registration as well?... or does that transfer over from the previous owner?

There are advanced free fraudster in every business and I gues you have met one and must be careful, if not, you must have paid some money for appraisal scammer before you know it.

Correction, I have never bought or sold a domain that was currently registered, i have only bought expired domains and hand registered some... so was just wondering about what happens to the registration , I thought it was a pretty simple question, I assure you there is no alterior motive behind the q.

btw...I admit i first was excited when I got the offer for my domain, but I realized it was a scam before I ever got any appraisal luckily...

If a domain is already registered and is for sale, whatever time the domain has remaining on it's registration is also transferred over to the new owner. So if the domain was registered for 3 years and it is sold to another person, the domain will transfer over with those years still intact. Now, depending on how the domain is transferred, the buyer might get an additional year added onto the registration upon transfer. It depends on if you push the domain to the buyer or if they have to do a registrar transfer.
