The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
If you put a link to your domain listing within a bigger market place, then

(1) 10% to 20% of the sale will be paid to that market place as a commission. Why not keep 100%?

(2) The buyer you're contacting may explore that market place and choose to purchase something else instead.

You forgot to mention that there are also people out there who specifically don't click links in emails. There have been enough issues with phishing, spam, and viruses, that a lot of people are very wary of links these days.

Using plain-text (no html, no links) to send your email can increase its likelihood of NOT ending up in a spam folder.

Good points, though.

Hello guys,

I've read dozen pages of this topic but i'm still confused what is better tactics: to state the price of the domain right away (in first email) or not to do that?

Can we get poll for this?

Thanks in advance.

DKMK22...Everyone has an opinion. If it's under $500, state price in the 1st email...over?? Depend on how much over...over $1000, don't state price..let them make an offer.

An end user contacted me if the domain is available for sale.

How should I go ahead? Should I ask for on offer or make mine?

quickly reply and give him a price, dont wait for him to name prices, name the amount you will be happy with, the min. amount

End User Computing (EUC) is a group of approaches to computing that aim at better integrating end users into the computing environment or that attempt to realize the potential for high-end computing to perform in a trustworthy manner in problem solving of the highest order.

Disagree.

All my sales less than 1K EUR were told with price by me. Wrong. Wrong. I will never do it again. I was "happy" but I feel I "leave my money on the table".
All my sales more 1K (from 2K-5K EUR) were agreed based on the agreed amount in 3-4 iterations and in 5-10 times bigger than End user proposed me first or I could be happy with.

Very first end user offer is important for indication about person you have deal with.
I have to have it. Otherwise I prefer to wait other End user.

It's dangerous to say price first as well;)

At the same time if I would have some small portfolio (less than 20-50 domains bought cheap last 5 years) then I could probably accept low balls. It's not the case in my case:)

It depends on your appetite/experience/quality of domain name.
And it depends on appetite of portfolio you need to cover by your sales. Sometimes it's better to lose your potential Sale in 500$ but to have the chance to win 10.000$ or more...

I have this domains for which I emailed an end user, he quickly responded within minutes of receiving the email to know how much I would like to get for the domain and I told him. He hasn't replied that last email to him in the last 24 hours...

what does that mean and how should I approach this?

@ J - I've just responded to your pm

I know the buyer as he purchased the other dn from sedo/ check your PM

as for the approach it's always about "patience" don't look desperate for the sale!

possible there is different time zone, letter was sent to not decision maker, letter is answered by person who is not really interested in domain, your letter was forwarded to their lawyer because TM issue:)....
There are so many possible reasons with End user...
wait for 2 days and just ask if they received your offer. If you will ask them each day then they think there is a trap or they were asked to pay with price they need to check/compare...

it is very difficult, there are chances, you have to market it, a lot

I just sold a domain to a company I initially emailed twice but got no reply. I contacted the CEO through social media who informed me he never knew anything about my emails but would be interested in the domain. He said the company manages about 150 names for their brand. Thats a fertile market for domainers I thought

So without contacting CEOs on social media or if one cant get the details of such people how does one get through to those responsible for managing such portfolios for say Yahoo, Amazon, Alibaba or Sky. Has anyone ever sold a name to these people?

Hello,

It happened that I got an email for one of my domains from someone who claim it would make a great brand and he wants to know if I would sell to him.

I told him though I had a plan for the name based on same reason he wants to purchase it for and that I would only sell if his offer is very good. So, I asked how much was he willing to pay to acquire the name. My reply was 3 hours after he emailed me.

He hasn't replied since then... I wonder if the words: "Very Good" made him think I was expecting thousands of higher dollars price...

Is it okay for me to contact him after 7 days? Or I should just move on if he does not ever contact me?

He actually emailed me on Monday using an email from hush

Following up in 7 days is perfectly acceptable and reasonable. I think you should always follow up unless you get that queasy feeling the "buyer" is simply a flake. Though in rare instances that can also result in a missed opportunity.

Are there specific industries that you or others have had success selling to end users? For example, are travel related companies more likely to buy generic travel names to get more traffic to their site?

Are you serious? Of course yes. This is namepros bro. I make end user sales in different niches time after time. Some folks here probably close end user deals every month if not every week.

That's right a travel firm may be interested in a name for that purpose.

However the market for travel domains is not restricted to travel related companies alone. Estate agents, local associations, chambers of commerce and media organisations are also potential suitors

IF the domain, realistically, is worth $10K, never sell it for $500. An experienced broker will give you a fair appraisal, will buy it from you for $2-3K OR put into Sedo auction with a price you will be happy with OR 'make offer' with a $3k reserve. I have seen very few NP domains that are worth $1k. sellers always believe their names are worth more than they are in end user ecosystem.

I pitched CityRobots to a dude, he asked how much and I told him. He decided to play the waiting game to get the name for cheap. I played along and reduced the price and he still wouldn't budge.

Then I asked him what is his best offer, he said $100. I told him fine that he could send his transfer details... which he sent.

That was the last he heard of me.

The same dude would go on sedo buying other domains and some are craps for much higher fees.

I learned that the fact that someone is willing to pay something to acquire a domain name you own, it is likely worth much more than he wants it for.

I honestly don't know how you guys are selling domains to end users via email anymore; I mean I sold a couple doing it this way many many years ago, but no matter what I seem to do I can't seem to get any serious bites.

I have tried all sorts of names - .us, .net and many .com and some .co.uk. I have tried sending prices in my initial email, not sending prices, tried many different types of "templates" such as simple ones with just a few lines of text to ones with much more that attempted to explain the domains worth and/or what they could do with it; I usually get no responses or people saying they aren't interested, but sometimes might get a couple of people asking "how much" and when I respond with a price they vanish.

Recently also tried a couple .com names with much lower prices then I had tried in the past - no luck either. Just seems like a whole waste of time to me TBH.
