Beauty.cc sold for 1 million?

Hi,
I think I saw somewhere beauty.cc sold for 1 million. I personally like the .cc's. Save a keystroke, looks good, easy to remember. If the .com equivalent sells for over 1 million, all the other extensions should grab at least a few k even the .cc's.
Cheers, all the best!

I hope that the spillover effect helps .cc in all languages!

PrΓͺt.cc & PrΓͺts.cc means loan.cc & loans.cc in French.

Bank of America paid $3 million cash to a computer consultant in San Jose for the rights to "loans.com."

ΠŸΠΎΡ€Π½ΠΎ.cc means porn.cc in Russian.

Domain name registrar and reseller Moniker.com has announced that Porn.com has been bought by Detroit-based MXN Ltd for $9.5m

Beauty.cc sold on 1st Feb 1999 (according to namebio.com) This was nearly nine years ago and clearly an anomaly. I wouldn't invest too much in .cc on the basis of this.

In fact looking at the rest of the reported sales doesn't fill me with that much confidence.
If .cc is so popular in Austria and Germany (and Switzerland), I would have expected more German names in the sales lists.

I like .cc, it just rolls of the tongue, but it's (still) an uphill struggle. The local market is non-existent (off-hand I think the population is under 2000) so it has to rely on being seen as "the alternative to .com" (which they've been trying for 10+ years?). Its 'rival' extension, .ws, is less than half the price (although .ws has premium pricing on LLLs), and a handful of other popular extensions (such as .in) are cheaper and more appealing in most cases.

.cc domains don't seem to be very liquid, so be prepared to hold onto your names for a while. To anyone thinking of 'getting into' it, I would comment that (generally) anything not yet registered probably isn't worth registering (particularly ASCII words) although there will always be an exception or two. If you have knowledge of a far-eastern language, Japanese/Chinese IDNs might be your best bet (based on what others have said about interest from the far east) these are likely to be cheaper (or even unregistered); if this extension is so popular in the far east then getting prime words this way will be cheaper and less of a risk/commitment than getting an English one (which are generally being sold for $100-$1000 if you look at Namebio)
Two character domains are likely to remain popular so keep an eye out on the after market for any you may see 'on the cheap'. (Afternic is one of the better places I found when buying 1/2 character names).

Also Mike's LLL.cc lists are handy (keep up the good work!), there are a few nice pronounceable ones left- although in the absence of a buy-out which, if it happens, I think would be a couple of years away (or after a price drop)-these may be best developed.

Like I've said, I don't dislike the extension, and have a few two and three letter domains myself, just trying to balance the viewpoints a little. As with any aspect of domaining, investigate as much as possible before jumping in.

And a new question to other .cc owners- where does you traffic come from? On my parked domains, nearly all my visitors are from Western Europe, except on my NLs where it's mainly US/Canada. I see very few from Asia. (Though visitor numbers overall are very small)

Traffic to my Z3.cc is 100% U.S.A traffic with 33% type in traffic.
On the flip side, 6H.cc is not really getting much of anything.
Difference between z3 and 6h is relatively clear. Z3 rides the BMW wake of fame, 6H ... i'm not sure what it could stand for...

Exactly! If Sex.com is worth millions of dollars, Sex.cc should at least generate a few k. It's easier to type, looks better(my opinion), anyone can buy and sell them (no country presence required), easy to remember. Waiting may be the best for now but I expect .cc's to take off. Generic .cc's will increase.
Cheers!

p.s. nice domains! spanish.cc and russian.cc

Yes, just an expression. Although I would certainly trade any of my "just regged" ones for it.

go .cc!!
Best looking extension on the net!! Easier to type, looks better, less stress on your fingers typing in all those letters eg. com , mobi, info, name etc...
save keyboards, save the earth, .cc is the greener choice!! Save the environment buy .cc!!

Why do you think .cc is going to get any popular ? :-/
Supply and demand. Many collectors. The dot CC's are hot and getting hotter. They are buying them up fast. When the best are taken the price goes up. I have a few 2 characters left (8). One gets 4000 to 5000 uniques every month, 1% click through rate. I have no idea what they are looking for or who is doing it. My parking company does not provide the info. I agree with the above statement. They need to lower the price for the CCTLD to really take off.
