I know businesses are interested, but are they wanting just thier own specific names and not really interested in the generics? i.e. Volvo really is pushing Volvocars.us, but would they really care about say autos.us?

Good question. I think strong generics, (ie auto.us) could be a marketed to non-us companies who are using company.us if they are interested in, (or could be convinced that), using the keyword domain would produce a substantial amt of additional traffic, if used as a pointer to their home domain.
