Introduction + question: is type-in only monetization method for a parked domain?

Hi everybody! As you will soon find out, my "TopTek" handle is a true misnomer I hail from South America and I would like to enter the domain name game, because a few bucks could make a big difference in these latitudes, if not living off it outright.

I am happy to be here, and ready to make my first question:
????: NamePros.com http://www.namepros.com/welcome-center/87086-introduction-question-type-only-monetization-method.html

When it comes to monetize a domain by parking it in one of the services (like domainsponsor, domainhop, sedo, etc) is "type-in" the only way to get people to visit? Or is it also possible to get visitors to a parked site by referral by a search engine such as Yahoo, Google or a secondary one (like MSN )

I ask this because my domain "portfolio" has some pretty attractive names, both in English and Spanish, but all my domain names are country-specific, such as .com.uy, .com.br, .com.py, etc.

Is there any hope for these domains to make a buck in a parking service by driving visitors via a search engine? Because nobody will ever type-in a .com.uy or .com.py domain extension... I don't even do it ...

In order for the search engines to find your PPC site, you'll have to have it hosted. That way the bots have something to look at. For example, I have http://pokerpeople.net hosted, and now it can generate PPC not only by type-ins, but by search engine results. Check it out (and browse around while you're there ).

Thanks Petter, Microdude and Gene for your greetings...

Gene, I have visited your site... very nice, all the poker stuff just jumps at you... visited a couple of links, too.

So the "procedure" is to host the domains I have, and then enter them with a parking service, so that the bots will read it, right? I was under the impression that the parking service will host the domain... any other tips? I just can't wait to see what kind of response my domains draw once parked...

Right... you need to use a PPC company that lets you 'forward' your domain FROM your webhost to their service. That way, your nameservers are pointed to your web host so you can create an actual web page, and have it forward to the PPC service via a frame. DomainSponsor lets you do this. With some PPC services, you have to set your nameervers to THEIR server, but that means you can't have a physical web page to get noticed by the search engines. I know it's confusing, but hang in there... :-)

Thanks for the welcome Nomi, WebGear and Sufi!

Gene, thanks for the info... I did see the frame on your website, and I was wondering because you have a banner in there, and I thought the banner itself was yours, not coming from DomainSponsor. So I guess you get a little extra from that banner... nice!

That totally answers my question about indexing of parked domains, physical page is a need, makes sense. Thanks again Gene!

not explicitly, though the intention is pretty clear when you suggest someone "Check it out (and browse around while you're there )."

However even if the person didn't click it is still against the tos to suggest people visit in this manner,

Thanks for pointing that out. I agree I was a bit too far left-of-center with that. I should not have encouraged anybody to "browse around". My bad!

I did not interpret Gene's comment as encouraging me to click on anything... to me, he just pointed out his site to illustrate his answer to my question... maybe I should have kept quiet about my couple of clicks...

BTW, maybe it's because I am from South America, but I noticed a very "official" attitude from some here at the boards... I am surprised that many seem to happily drink big company Kool Aid when they are themselves very much small fish... not that my country is a good example, but we tend to develop more of a horizontal, peer-to-peer loyalty rather than vertical loyalty (the loyalty say, to Google Ads, or to support Google's side in the froogles.com case, etc).
????: NamePros.com http://www.namepros.com/showthread.php?t=87086

I guess this vertical, as opposed to horizontal, loyalty (is this stemming from an age factor perhaps?) is what makes the US works so well... but remember that if the US works well, it's the US that works well, not necessarily its people.
