Namepros To the Rescue

Within the week an email arrived:

"Hi,

I'm writing regarding your domain for sale I saw about two weeks ago. Unfortunately, I was busy and could not contact you at that time.

Is it still available for sale? Have you received any bids from other buyers?

Please email me your asking price in US dollars.

If I can afford your domain I will contact you. Please keep my email address and our correspondence confidential.

I run a software development company. Selling & buying names is not my main business. Just another way to invest free money and make some income.

Finally, our investment in domain names is paying off, I told my Wife. Other than a Whois, the correspondent could only have known about GoCountry.biz by perusing Sedo, the company that has carried our domain names exclusively.

Though the writer asked for confidentiality, I nonetheless had a duty of disclosure to Sedo, I felt. So I informed the company of the inquiry and asked how I should respond. (In the past the inquiries and negotiations had been handled within their system.)

Good thing I did. Mara Miller of Sedo suggested I direct the correspondent to respond through the system. Then she sent me a link on this web site about a scam going around. Lo and behold the alias of Trevor Berger, my prospective buyer, appeared.

You see, according to the report, the scam is Trevor's (there are several aliases) demonstrated interest to obtain an offer from me, whereupon he would require me to pay for an appraisal at a site of his choosing. Next thing after this light bulb went on was I enrolled here. I leave you with this posting. Thanks, Sedo and Namepro.

Hi, Welcome and thanks for sharing, that's good info to know.

I tried my best to fall for that trap a couple years ago. It was almost the exact same wording, pitch, and everything. I desperately tried to sell domains to the buyer but never heard from him. Hahah, now that's a sign you have some crappy domains! Luckily I've learned (a little) since then.
