Question Header/Footer Adv/Disadvantages

Ok. I know a lot of ppl use header and footers in their pages, but i got a question on headers.

Can you tell me some disadvantages of using header in your pages.

I am thinking like this.

If you use header your title remains the same in all of your pages, which would mean that my search rankings could be hurt as titles are one of the important thinks that google draws its results.

Can anybody explain

Thank You.

I think your thinking is right

I have always been told to have different meta tags for each page describing that particular page, not that I do it

Yes It's easy..

Thats the way I'm doing it..

<html>
<head>
<title>
<meta tags>
</head>

<?php require("header.php"); ?>

<some_specific_page_code>

<?php require("footer.php"); ?>

This way you save a lot of time and your keeping control of your meta-tags and title..

Ok. I understood <?php require("header.php"); ?> was, <?php require("footer.php"); ?> was but i don't get <some_specific_page_code>. How would you implement it.

For Ex. I had a gaming site. it has header.php and footer.php

I would include it like this:

<?php require("header.php"); ?>
Body
<?php require("footer.php"); ?>

but i don't understand <some_specific_page_code>implementation

basicly thats just where you'd put the info that particular page, an if you don't want the same title ect just have the header start with a table and on each page, use metatags ect and after all that call header.php

You begin with your title information, tags and all (specific to each pages)

Then you go with your header.php
-- The header.php usually include your menu dans the basic layout.

Now, the <some_specific_page_code>

Thats where you put your page specific data. You already have your meta tags, your menu. Then you put the information you want for this specific page.

And then with the footer, you close the tag you have opened in the header for a perfect w3c-compliant page. And you close your SQL connection or your class object.

You mean ?

If your speaking about PageRank. Google only matters about client-side code. He doesn't care at all about the way you achieve this code.

it´s easy!

i do like this:

have two files called header.inc.php and footer.inc.php

then for example in a news page we would have:

<?php
$maintitle = "NamePros.com is number one";

include ("header.inc.php");
?>

your html code goes here

<?php
include ("footer.inc.php");
?>

and in the header.inc.php i would have:

<html>
????: NamePros.com http://www.namepros.com/showthread.php?t=9602
<head>
<title><?php echo $maintitle ?></title>
</head>
<body>

and that´s it. i use a template system but the basics are here

Instead of <?php echo $maintitle ?>, you can simply use <?=$maintitle?>. Much neater (IMHO).
