Newbie looking for advise.

Hi everyone. I have been looking through many posts on this site searching for information on website design. I have found a lot of great info but thought I would throw my situation out there and hopefully get some good advise. My family and I are going overseas as missionaries and I want to design a website for family and supporters to get info on us and what we are doing. I have read many reviews on dreamweaver and Frontpage. I plan on investing in books to learn html but want to know if I should invest in dreamweaver over frontpage if I only plan on using it for the above mentioned purpose. I know there are a lot of really knowledgeable people on this site and I hope I can get some good advise. Thanks. Also what books do you think I should get?

Hey,

I think you should use Dreamweaver. FrontPage is just ... bad!

There is a good book on HTML called HTML 4 written by Rick Darnell. That should get you started in the right direction

Regards,

Studio

I think StudioWorks is wrong, Front page is not bad, it may actually be better for you because it is user friendly and a good tool for new web designers because the interface is similar to word, excel etc. Front page does have it's disadvantages though. Also I recommend getting the dummies serries like html for dummies or dreamweaver for dummies. If you need extra help PM me.

I prefer Evrsoft (no typo) 1st Page. Free and the best.

however, here are a few different free HTML Editors you can explore, uncluding 1st Page.

Front page is good, and it only requirs small HTML knowledge. Also, when learning HTML site's like www.HTMLgoodies.com are good to browse.

From my personal experience and I know basically nothing about web design, is Front Page *though it is limited and turns out some pretty plain web pages* is easier for a beginner to pick up vs. DreamWeaver. I have both programs but could never get any where with DreamWeaver, it was just too hard for me to comprehende. You on the other hand may be able to figure it out with little effort. Front Page was much easier for me to conquer, I mean I could at least create a page and publish something by using FP, whereas when I was trying to create something on DW, I got NO where! But that is just my opinion. If you are not going to get someone to build the site for you, and you are going to invest in the software, I would go with Front Page, I have Front Page 2003 and it has more options than it's previous releases, so you can do a little more with it now. It is just easier to understand and it has an online help guide that works wonders! I think DreamWeaver is much more capable of producing a better site, nicer looking, more features, etc...but unless you know how to use the software it is worthless. I think you could figure out Front Page if you are new to design, I am really "green" at designing but I figured FP out, that is saying alot! LOL...
