We are working on a membership site for any level online profit seeker. We have a host of ideas, tools and systems that will be part of the members area, and the members area is a CMS system that allows us to expand and give members a great deal more.

site is profitbeacon.com, idea behind it will be a members area to test, speak, check on ideas on building an online business.

Discounts on partner sites
Marketing program (banner, visits, expired domain traffic etc)
Ideas and systems that have work for us in our business

I think you need to offer a significant amount free. Get the traffic there, and the offer the upgraded membership. Perhaps offer the upgraded memberships at a very discounted rate during the first 3 months.

Yeah we are going to also use this area for any paid clients of ours, as a members support area as well. Add's value to our business services.

Your right the more free the more clients, But the free items have to be of value and different then other sites

Honestly I don't see anything that other membership sites don't have (You suggested as much with your thread title).

You need to find a way to stand out heads and shoulders above the other sites. I'm not trying to bash you, but I have helped a few other membership sites get off the ground and I run a small one myself. (see stmapartner.com). They take a lot of work, and the return is sporadic if your really giving them value. Stmapartner has never returned a profit because it all goes back into the site. I could probably push it more, but it's just a hobby and the site never grew to the point where it would make a profit with out some heavy time and promotion.

Resale rights on GOOD unique products are expensive, and a large part of what you bring in needs to go into that to keep the service unique.

Can you think of a "niche" or some segment that is underserved that you have the skills to help?

You might also think about tailoring your membership site to specific affiliate programs, that way you have a membership base established and the affiliate program owner may just promote your site to their members............

Hey STMA thanks for the honest feedback, and yeah we have more ideas but didn't want to get to deep into them here, but your 100% right with your advice, we are looking for a "niche" and think we found one. Like many others on this forum and on the web we sell dotcombuilder and prozilla sites.

What we are finding is that there are TONS of them out there and no one supporting these people who brought these sites. So we fig. Our that if we create a membership area to help support and grow these type of sites and show the people who brought this sites how to expand the concepts of these sites it's a win win.

1. We get a area to support our clients and also it can work as a "pre-sale" area to get them informed on what they need to get started.

2. Also we can show them how with the basic themes of the dotcom and prozilla sites and the help of some CMS systems they can truly have a growing and workable business opportunity.

But you are 100 on target, we are looking to refine this more and more and try and making it as unique as possible.
