Does the url/link/addy matter??

Morning!

Does it matter... to search engines or whatever... if a url/addy/link reads...

http://www.chargecards.cc/credit-car...redit-card.htm

vs.

http://chargecards.cc/cps.htm

I see my competitors have them spelled and I'm wondering why! Please advise!

Thanks!

Lyte

EDIT: Fix link.

Hello Lyte,

Yes they do matter. They are beeing used to get a higher relevance is Serp's ( Search engine result pages ).

Let's say that you have a design company and one of your keywords is " web desgign"

You get much higher rankins and relevance in SERP's if you have a domain name like : www.webdesign.com and pages that are named after your keywords like www.webdesign.com/web-design-services.html

Thanks!

Be aware though, that there are those of us that pay attention to the addy of the site in the search results before we click. If it has long page names such as how you've described, I generally will NOT click it. I assume it is a crappy bogus site focusing more on page ranking instead of page content.

But then again, I'm a cynic.

Yes Jimmy - correct. But that's a risk web masters are willing to take to improve their rankins.

Cheers.

Also be sure not to use a _ (underscore) google will not read it as a space. So you have to stick to - (hyphens).

Thank you! I was wondering about that too!
????: NamePros.com http://www.namepros.com/showthread.php?t=89821

I'd been using _ then I noticed my comp using - so I switched. I didn't know why they were using - instead of _ but I'm no fool! I figure if some big ol' site is doing things a certain way... there's gotta be a reason!

Thanks for the heads up!

Hi,

You can see the keywords in bold face in urls on SERP pages. Obviously, some weight is given to keywords in urls.
