How to add to a page shortcut to destop?

Hi,
I.E has a funtion add to favourite. My site has a link that help viewers add my page to favourite. However, I found that add to destop (like windows Explorer) is better.
How can I do it? Add an Icon of my page to destop for my customers can access to my site directly from their destop.

I'm pretty sure this is not possible, for security reasons.

I dont think so either, You would have to have them add it to there favorites then they (or you) would have to physically drag it to there desktop.

only way it would be possible is for them to open a file from yoru site and the file creates the desktop icon

An ActiveX would do it...

That or an IE security bugs

It's possible, with an ActiveX. The problem is that the user need to agree to the ActiveX (unless you reg it, but I know nothing about ActiveX Certificate). And programs like adaware will probably remove you and give you a bad reputation.

I wouldnt do it.

I don't think..

Think about it.. If you can put a file on people PC. It's terribly unsecure.

There's IE bugs and ActiveX.

Ask to be in the Favorites, I know its not a Desktop link but at least it's clean.

Hmm, I know its possible because I remember an MLM website I visited a LONG time ago (like a few years ago) had a thing to download a link to the website that sound slike what you asking about. But keyword is download and most users are wary of them.

if you give a reassurance about privacy
and no third parties involvement, etc,etc,
some might accept the deal in exact for something?
