jpg distorted on HTML page only?

This problem started when I noticed a person 'hotlinked' (i think that's the correct term) an image from my site. I don't really care except he misinterpreted my point. So I changed this chart to make it self explanitory.

The problem is:
For some reason when that exact same chart shows up in a webpage it distorts and I don't know why:

FWIW, I use a WYSIWIG called NVU as my HTML skills are somewhat limited. NVU tends to make a mess of the HTML.

More specificly this line in the chart distorts:
"U.S. Home Prices / Median Houshold Income"

its distorted because the image is being resized in unproper proportions.
