Limit amount of downloads script??

I have certain files that I would like to limit on how many times they can be downloaded it so as not to kill all my bandwidth. Somone please help me on how to do this?

Do you have a member feature implemented into your website?

No, no members or anything like that. Basically its just a simple site with various large files that I post on forums to share with other people. Some of these files are pretty large and I want to limit the max times the file can be downloaded before the link going "down" persay. I've seen it done once before. But all the searching and I cant figure out how.
