company site, possibly ecommerce - advice sought!

Hi All,

I am starting a site for a new company of mine very soon. The company will sell doors.

I need a site which is classy and stylish, but also built with SERPS in mind. Initially, the site will just be an 'online showroom', but it may be that in future I make it ecommerce.
????: NamePros.com http://www.namepros.com/website-development/637350-company-site-possibly-ecommerce-advice-sought.html

I will be outsourcing the entire creation of the site as I have little skills mysef in this area.

What I was wondering is, does anybody have any strong receommendations about a script or package to use? What is the best way to go?

My budget is pretty meagre, I would not want to spend more than £500-£1000 on it if I can help it...

Any thoughts or advice appreciated, please though, only receommend things you have direct experience with and can vouch for personally!

Hi gingeman,

If you are outsourcing the website I would strongly suggest that you put some effort into the requirement specification and make it clear that the site should be able to turn into an ecommerce if you think it will. If not, the creator might depend on a CMS (content management system) that lacks support for this kind of functionality.

My initial advice would be to create an open requirement specification, write down what you want your website to do and ask a developer what he/she suggests as a solution. Use lots of examples on both design, appearance and functionality. Since you're on a limited budget it might be smart to remind the developer that you're on a tight budget (just mention the range, not specifics) and ask for his or hers recommendations.

If you're going to make an ecommerce (better than having a 'showroom') then use this script Magento - Home - eCommerce Software for Growth - probably the best free ecommerce script out there
