Hi, I tried to make one myself, but it ended with headach, frustration and almost throwing my laptop out of the window

I don't know if I can afford it, so I just want an idea of how much similar sites like these would cost (if the price is right I might buy it from you, so please give a serious price of how much You will do it for).

What I am interested in are sites like these two sites:
forumotion.com
sosblog.com

Please look at the sites and all the features they provide, before mentioning a price.

I am only interested in the above mentioned sites internal features, I AM NOT interested in the features they provide through external domain names, like the "shopmotion" part and "hitskin" part.

Please give seperate price, one if you do all the design + programming and one if you only do the programming.

Please ask if you have questions about what I want.

I will not promise to choose anyone who replies, it depends on the price (if I can afford it). I dont have a budget mentioned, because I really don't know what such sites cost, so when you reply, please give an offer that you know you can hold on to.

This isn't the marketplace boards, so we can't give our offers, although I'd say that such sites wouldn't cost much - maybe $200 (billed at perhaps $25/hour) for the programming, then $50-$250 for the design.

All it'd require is having the software there, and just copying over the files when necessary (i.e. when a new user signs-up, creating a new folder automatically, and moving the software files across) and editing the required files.

Actually it may be a bit more than $200 although I don't think this would be a $x,xxx job.

I think such a job is above me, but just wanting to post to say that this job would take perhaps 10+ hours (it'd require root access to set-up the databases and subdomains, etc) - so be wary of anyone who says they can do this for <$50 (basically for someone who says they can do it for <$5/hour) I think that $200+ is more accurate, am just pointing out that this job isn't an easy, 1/2 hour job

I did not now that it was not the proper place to put this thread, so sorry mods if your read this.

The forum scripts used are as I now of free and/or opensource and can be downloaded from their websites, so one problem solved there . And as I now of their is even a mod to phpbb so the multiforum would be easy implemented to the core script.

I tried it myself, but I could not get it to work as I wanted I really suck at installing scripts and make the modifications so it does what I want it to do.

I had the same thoughts about the root access thing and who to trust with that, so you are right that I wont just say yes to anybody who gives me a cheap price. I have a VPS at Fusedhosting.net.

Are you looking to make something like sosblog or like forumotion or both? From my experience for design and coding (more accurately development ~ the script is available) for both sites it can reach 1K. However I did see a startup site like sosblog complete with nce cool design and coding done sold for around $300-$400. That should be the range.

Yes, it is good that they are all open source. It's the only way it can be done really (it'd get really complicated to check licenses of paid scripts, etc, too)

To be honest I'm not 100% sure of the value, and the root access/needing subdomains/databases set-up is something I'm not too confident in (well, when it comes to doing it via PHP, anyway!), although I can't see the value being $x,xxx unless it's something already developed like wussadotcom has mentioned.

$x.xxx is expensive, in my mind. You must remember that the scripts are available, open source and free, so it should only be some modifications to those scripts thats needed and minor designing (I want it very simple). But what do I know, squat.

$200-500 total for both sites is more what I had in mind. Do you think it is possible?

$200-$500 would be a tad low, but possibly do-able.

Whilst they are all open source and free, and the modifications themselves wouldn't be too difficult (just time consuming), setting up the subdomains and MySQL databases/users (etc) would get tricky.

As I say, I'd personally think that someone who knew what they were doing (so had experience in this sort of thing) could take 10 hours per script. So 20 hours per total on the programming. Then lets say a further 5 hours for both designs - so 25 hours total.

That's me being a bit conservative, but it helps to form a basic figure IMO. For an experienced programmer, you'd be hard pushed to find anyone available under $15 (and many experienced ones may bill at $50/hour or more). But going on the $15/hour figure, that may be 25 * 15 = $375.

I'm not 100% sure, but that's a rough estimate for someone who knows what to do (and so can do each script quite quickly) and also who won't charge 'high' hourly rates.

Of course, someone who is experienced enough to do this sort of job probably would bill at more than $15/hour, although it may be possible to find.

I can do this for $250 each site, but it will include some open source with my code and does not include designs....well basic designs will be included, nothing fancy.
