Instant mini video sites ?

Has anyone ever done one ?

Did it work for you and did you make a profit, was it as easy as the ads say ?

.... was it worth it

Love to read some views on this

It's good.

Your question "can you make money?" is a little uneeded, it all depends on how much work you are going to put into it, marketing fees, domain etc.

Look at Youtube, it makes millions, then look at a small video site that doesn't make anything.

Check mustwatchVideos.com. I started it 4 months ago and is now a pr 2 site. I created this out of passion for learning something new. So now no plans of having any ads.

Regarding input cost -
Using drupal. Except the domain name and hosting, there is no extra expense. The modules are free and the theme too is free. Since the videos are on youtube, vimeo etc, the bandwidth is theirs. So you can use a basic shared hosting.

Returns -
I've not kept any ads, so cannot say anything. But from my experience in browsing other video sites, the chances of someone clicking the ads are less on a video site than on a text based site. Specially if the ads are text links. But there are more chances of someone clicking a banner ad or flash ad.

It looks like you have room for ads , but i see what you mean about people clicking if on a text site

I wonder if you are able to ad a logo up top ?

I think a few flash ads would brighten it up a little

As Sean rightly pointed out - it all boils down to your effort - and how much of it you actually put in.

Effort is directly proportional to the money your site makes.

Of course effort has reward , but i meant the concept as a whole , it may be better to have a text style site for certain situations

It could boil down to the content being fresh all the time ? or perhaps the idea is not popular to start with and was never going to succeed ?

even with adult sites many are free and i wonder how they make money

IMHO, they are a waste of resources if they do not have original content. They are a dime a dozen. Figure it like this, why go to yours and not YouTube? YOu need an adge to set you apart, try to stay away from cookie cutter. Good luck though, friend!

There are a lot of video sites out there. You need to start a niched site like Bikerpunks.com - Watch Motorcycle Videos, Sportbike Videos! and you'll make money. Then you can market to people in that field. Bikerpunks used to have links to lawyers for people in accidents.

most of the sites in my signature are video based , the names were not making money and i have unlimited hosting so just quick sites using the youtube platform , although Australian Video Travel Guide is a bit more serious, i will have a look at bikerpunks thanks

Ive experimented with a number of video site concepts (non adult) here's what I found works:
1) quality hand picked videos, not a million automatically added ones
2) write a little content with the video like a description or short blog post
3) encourage viewer interaction, this will generate free fresh content

For software I found wordpress worked best but I would consider other platforms that had more of a community. Bikerpunks.com is looking good!

I set this site up for free on Magnify.net Dub Yard: Champion Dub Reggae Videos
Fun platform but it hasn't been very profitable.

dubyard has a good feel for the purpose, i do agree quality over quantity, i feel with the right niche video is the future , at least some video will enhance a site
